i always thought it would be cool to body colour the backs of the seats
I am using acrylic thinners pal
I have considered it pal
Can't get the heat pads working on the passenger seat, they are after market and thought they would be ok, not got a multi meter to check but connected the power supply to a bulb and that lit when switched on so it looks they they are tossed, to my surprise I tried the drivers seat base and it worked a treat with the OEM ones
When I had this issue with the aftermarket ones it turned out that one of the pins in the plug was bent so not making contact, baffled me until I decided to check, the plugs on them can be a bit naff so maybe it’s just that...
Wish it was that simple, I have bullet connectors on them
Had a good look at the seat today and there is nothing wrong with it at all, it was me connecting the wrong wires, the multi plug for the heat pads was just sat there in full view and I missed it and assumed the red and black wires where after market heat pads,
I plugged everything in and it works a treat,
So the question is, what are the red and black wires with the connector blocks

Do the wires lead to the seat belt tensioner?

My guess is that if the cable is coming from the backrest some seats had a sensor on the back to prevent the motors from pushing the seat too far into the cabin so when the backrest hit the rear bulkhead the sensor made contact and disconnected the motor with some relays that are located at the front of the base of the seat. Is the connector present on both seats?
What sort of connector do you have for the main harness? is it the Yellow "facelift" version or the pre-facelift black and white separate plugs, I just looked at my seats (pre-facelift) and from the base of the seat towards the back from a big oval hole there are 3 pairs of cables coming each pair on one of those thicker black sheaths , 2 of them sheaths are the pads and go to the black connector, the other one goes inside the main harness and its the sensor to prevent the seat moving too far backwards.
The back stopper sensor cable is actually coming from the backrest but goes round the back of the foam on the seat base and through that oval hole along the other cables.

I am not sure if I followed your post:
If you are talking about the red and black wires going into the 2 pin terminal blocks with screws, they definitely are not a BMW fit. Either someone has fitted a wiring loom in to repair something, or to add something new.

I still don't know what they are but they appear to be part of the loom
Mmmm, I cannot find them om any of my diagrams for a pre facelift. Normally BMW use brown, possibly with a stripe, for the -ve/earth. What year of car did the seats come out of?

Might have found it, RT = Red, SW = Black.
The colours match the pyrotechnic seat belt tensioner on the face lift models. I cannot find them on the pre facelift model (I don't think they were fitted until they introduced 2 stage airbags, but I may be wrong.).
