I bought an M a few months ago for £8000. She now has 148000 miles on the clock and is a bit crusty around the edges. A bit of a troublesome madam sometimes but I always like to look at my big Tonka toy. You can still get most of the parts from BMW so spares are not really a problem. Rather than putting my £8000 in a bank I have put the money into this M. Long term ,like any investments, they will rise in value or fall in value but you will never tire of looking at the car

@raymond that's a great price for a lovely looking car. Most M's are north of £10k that I've seen advertised

Personally- I think you have to own the car because you want to own and drive it. To get an appreciable or worthwhile increase in value you're going to have to own it for a long time, keep it pristine and keep the miles off to allow the many others around to catch up. That somewhat defeats the purpose of owning it.

I think there are way too many out there (75% of all Z3s registered are still around. Z3Ms are likely to be the same so not a really rare car), many garage queens with low miles to make a killing on one unless you can get an absolute steal from someone who doesn't know what they've got. Buy it because you want to and can afford to drive it. It's going to cost just to keep it in a garage. Just as risky as any investment.
They fetch good money at low miles because they're a great car that cost a fair bit when they were new. They won't go down in price but none except the best low milers are going to go up probably even then not massively.
Buy because you want it - buy it knowing it's still going to cost even if you don't use it - buy it to enjoy it imho.

I'd hate to hear of you feeding the wildlife mate:(. But thanks to the pair of you for giving Frankie the opportunity to record those videos which I have in my YouTube favourites and I could watch them any time, although I still get nervous watching you sleep and him videoing and driving.=))=)). When we can stay over there longer we intend to visit the places you both did. Been to Vegas and flown over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead but never been to Nashville or Graceland .................. yet!

I guess it all comes down to whether a S50 Z3M is really worth the current pricing, or even the future pricing. If I had 15-20k spare would I buy one? I really don't think so, but good luck if you can get one, store it and make some money. Less being available will help bolster sale prices for everyone else.

The S54 has the extra rarity value to it due to numbers, but those prices are getting ridiculous.

I'm guessing the only ones to make any money are your kids, the most pleasure your going to get out of the ///3 m is the doughnuts you can do in it,and looking back at it when you park it :)

I was lucky to spend a week driving across the USA with @FRANKIE in that beauty it's sitting in his driveway calling to me every day View attachment 58947

Hugh's quote: "I was lucky to spend a week driving across the USA with @FRANKIE in that beauty it's sitting in his driveway calling to me every day.

That voice is getting weaker and weaker and is beginning to crack..........................

WHY DID HE FEEL THIS WAY???........................

Because he drove it like it was SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVEN!!!!!! Someone told me: "You can't drive a coffin". ........And they're right!!!!!!
Get the damn car and drive the s*** out of it.

Just a reminder on HOW THIS CAR SHOULD BE DRIVEN..............................

(How does this feel. Really listen to the excitement in the voice and the feeling of exhilaration you can get from driving it. DON'T LET IT SIT IN THE GARAGE (or in your driveway.) Mine should be back on the road soon................Frankie

Interesting article Pingu, thank you. As with any potential investment (be it houses, stocks & shares, currency, gold, etc) the secret is to buy at the bottom and sell at the top. If the bubble is about to burst in the car market as most of the doom-mongers seem to be 'predicting' then common sense would indicate that I should sit back and wait for prices to fall through the floor and buy a low mileage, one owner, immaculate condition Z3M for £3000 lol. I wish I had such an accurate crystal ball as the ones that they seem to be using.

For me personally, any future purchase, whatever that turns out to be, will be viewed as a long term investment and not a get rich quick scheme and I am prepared to ride the waves when things get tough. Finding the right car for me however is another mattter and something that I will consider very carefully. One thing is for sure, while ever the Media and other sideline vultures keep fuelling their 'end of the world' scenarios the values of everything will plummet which affects all of us in one way or another.

We live in uncertain times and a lot of people, me included, are unsure of the direction we are heading but IMO I think it is high time that we got off the path of self-destruction, pulled our socks up and tried a little positive thinking for a change - who knows, we might even enjoy it !!!

It is true that 'classic' car values have been drastically over-inflated for a good few years now and a review of values is way overdue. I look forward to future developments with interest.

Off to buy a crystal ball now

I think that there will always be a market for "classic" cars, but I think the market changes all the time. At the moment, there is a lot of free money around and those who had a hankering for a particular car when they were in their late teens/early twenties are fortyish and are in the market to buy those cars. If you haven't done it yet, you have missed that boat, but another will come along soon.

What was the poster car in 2005 and is cheap to buy now? What cars were doing the Top Gear test track in 2005? Are any of them bargains today? They (IMO) would be a better "investment" than the poster car of 1998. I'd still look at E46 M3s or Audi RSs

I've not checked the adverts, but these are sub 70k for <£10k...

You'll have to pay a little bit more, but low mileage for around £13k...

Hi all.
Thought i would put my views regarding the 'should I shouldn't I' dilemma for investing in a Z3M.
When you look at the production numbers for right hand drive cars produced in Z3M form there is just shy of 1000 cars.
Not all of these cars actually came to the UK as there is quite a few other countries that drive on the left, and of those that did come to the UK there is about 500 examples remaining according to the web site www.howmanyleft.co.uk. and searching for Z3 M Roadster
With this amount of cars actually in the UK, (in my eyes) it makes it a 'No Brainer' that they will be sought after and prices will continue to rise.
