Thats interesting,
I have a neighbour who specializes in high end sound systems for the home. I am going to ask him to have a look at the crossover/amplifier and get his opinion on what it actually does

I googled them and they seem to be a legit brand.
Yeah, I had a look at their site too, but I just had never heard of them. Having said that, I've been away from Brazil for 33 years...

That would be valuable information. Many things will clear out if he verifies.

Hi Zephyr
Yep, correct Part no on the speaker is 8 410 689.

So a bit of messing about now, need to discover what happens if i fit a coaxial speaker and leave the amp/splitter in place.
Or rip it out and just use the Sony unit only.

Cant help with that but I can ask the fellow who sold me the speakers. He seems to know his stuff. But you will have to wait until Monday…

I'm betting it won't make much difference,

I used to have the cassette player but no cd interchanger... see below.

I removed the head unit (works fine but wanted BT and cd's. Bought the Pioneer deh-s420bt for £98 and a BWM to pioneer iso adapter.
Simple as to fit.

Works great.

Now everyone was telling me about this amp in the boot - nada, zilch! Not even a cable going spare.

Anyway, the head unit has the option of playing with crossover settings - it now sounds fantastic even at lower volumes, with a really good bass beat - brilliant for an old rock head like me!:)

I have only the two 5.25" in the footwell, 2 tweeters in the doors, and two 3.5" in the two panels behind the seats.

I think I may have found a wire for a central sub but not sure - hoping someone can identify it - I found it at the rear of the central console under the little switch panel between the seats. Unless its for the rear delisted, but looks a bit too fine for that.

The colours look like black/white with yellow triangles? and red. Going into a tiny connector

Any ideas?

Thanks

This diagram shows a red-white and a white-red-yellow cable coming from the source and indicates that these are for the cd-changer.
if the plug looks as it could fit to the cd changer, then this cables serves this purpose.
if not, we have to find a better and simpler diagram to look at.
i can look at some sites I found during my search, but only from cable colours would be a real pain. Can we see the plug pins or slots?

Better analysis Of the cd changer wires. I can see a black and white.
subs, and woofers are yellow, blue and brown. No black.
This one shows the plug better - it is not the usual white one I can see in your pic above - this is black and flat as seen below. 2 wires only. it "could" be white/grey/yellow and a red one.

Took me a while to find it but here is a diagram for bypassing the amp, remove it and then throw it in the bin, it's as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

Ive reached my limit of ideas, can not guess. Never seen it before. Someone with a cd changer may enlighten us.

Looking at your diagram, and the colours of the wires listed - I think it is missing the brown wire from the set perhaps, as I can't think of any other reason for a multicoloured wire of this type that is definitely not amperage rated - too thin.
Thank you!

Even when keeping the original headunit?
I think this is a very good point. Based on everything I read, the amplifier/splitter might not be the best, but it was designed to work well with the original head unit.

My modern head unit sounds crap, but it would be interesting to find out how the set-up sounded with the original equipment. I am looking for an original head unit so that I can test that hypothesis...

I must admit mine is sounding great and all I have done is swap head units over, nothing else. In you r modern unit check the menu settings, mine has got crossover thresholds for subwoofers and speakers etc as well s bass & voice gain etc. I had the radio on in my Ford Focus estate and opened the doors on both cars - the focus was tinny and crap!

Where are you Mus? I am in Linton.

I am in Ramsey, North Canbridgeshire, so not too far from you. On my way to my first ZedShed Midands) session on the 4th next month, so maybe I will see you there?

Even when keeping the original headunit?
That depends if the headunit has a built in amp. Mine didn't have the original headunit when I got it. I swapped that for a 50w per channel Pioneer Bluetooth unit (crossovers built in), Alpine coax speakers (original tweeters still in doors) and an under seat Kenwood sub fitted behind the passenger seat. Vast improvement on the original but it's never going to be brilliant in a convertible.

If you are worried about originality you can always revert to standard before selling on.

From a previous post you mentioned about the rear speakers not fitting. The preface lift had smaller speakers than the facelift, I think they are 3.5" and 4.5" respectively if my memory serves me right.
