IMHO. Z3M is a great car but I would go for a good solid 3.0
Interesting advice. I get scared enough in my 3.0. And if the engine is setup properly it should almost keep up with an M, in a straight line at least. And mine is well setup now - it drove like a 2.2 when I first had it and I've done everything on it. And yes, I know straight line acceleration is only part of the M proposition. But I just don't want to sink the money in either. I could have 7 non-M Z3s for £15-£20k - oh yeah, I've got 7 non-M Z3s... =))

Fair play to anyone who wants one though. There are usually considerably more Z3Ms for sale than 3.0s. BMW made more Z3Ms and more of the 3.0s have been broken for spares.

Hi Mrscalex
They built even less 2.0i but they are still going cheap, and I can imaging loads of them have been scraped as well. but still a fab car.
We have had this conisations about the 3.0i being a rare before and you said there not. It was when I was new to the group and a bit wet behind the ears.
Anyway if you have 7 decent z3's for £15k I might be interested in the lot.
If money wasn't an issue, what would you buy??? 🤔

And I’m still not saying 3.0s are rare. I said there are nearly always more Z3Ms on sale than 3.0s. Neither is rare compared to an Aston Martin Bulldog. There’s only 1 of them. But both Z3s are very desireable and hence in demand. And there is a relatively small supply of them. The 2 factors create the higher price compared to other Z3s. But rare? No. And being rare doesn’t always help. A Barbie pink 2.2 is really rare but would you want one?

What I have said to you in the past is that there’s more 3.0s than a lot of people realise as they use howmanyleft incorrectly. Still not a lot compared to other models but more by several fold than some people claim.

All my cars were bought as projects which have had much time and no small amount of money invested. So what I paid is not relevant to what I sell on for. That said I will be downsizing and moving at least a couple on next year.

Sorry if the thread is going all over the shop, but I'm thinking nothing isn't pertinent to your quest. Let me know if it gets unhelpful, you know how this lot like to chatter (also my bad, lol).

I didn’t know you had bought yourself an M Car, Congrats.
Z4M roadie about 2 months ago, currently undergoing a full rebuild - because 15 year old cars need attention. I'd show you my current spend, but I'm still in counselling to come to terms with it 😆 (even the plastic cable clips are expensive!)

I’ll try and be more constructive. I know from the likes of @Nodzed that these are expensive cars to refresh and get straight. I seem to remember a figure of £10k being quoted (not including any major engine work).

So I’d rather have a higher mileage refreshed car than a lower mileage unrefreshed car. Not to confuse main dealer service history with being sorted either.

I don't think any of the posts haven't been constructive, just aware that this was a wanted advert in the first instance.

hi Gaz
I’ve had some fantastic advice from members on this thread, that includes yourself as well. It’s also been really nice to chat to other members that I’ve not chatted with before. Happy for the advice everyone. Just need to carry on doing my homework on the z3m’s and find my perfect Zed. 👍
cheers all.
Kyle

Wanted threads do tend to attract "advice" from well meaning people and I would suspect more often than not something constructive can be gleaned.
Hope you find your Z3MR before long Kyle.

Tony.

Rob as I said great cars I had 2 still have 1. But I spent a lot of time bimbling along at 50mph enjoying the roof down you can do that in a 1.9 for a fraction of the cost. I enjoyed every mile in Willow and wish I still owned her but comfort and cost wise and what I know now I would have kept my original 2.8. And had the same fun. If I ever do another project it will be a 3.0 not an M. All that said when you want to hoon they are the puppies ;);)

If it’s an itch you have to scratch then go for it.
The thing to do though is have a look at a few and get to drive them. Good history is key and it may mean travelling to find the right one. When I bought my first M Coupe I saw 4 x coupes and one roadster before deciding which car to buy.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks buddy, I completely agree about the history is key. Not going to rush as well, I have until spring to find the right car. 👍

We were going to advertise my wife's Estoril M in the new year but you are welcome to take a look before then if you are over our way. It will be sub 20k and has done just over 65000 miles. Been to Italy 3 times in our ownership but I think those days may be over for us thanks to Covid and uncertain travel regulations.

Yes Mark, my brother went that route with Munich legends, he had a Z4 🙄, they did muck him about at the time, but that was years ago, a change of staff since, also they know my car well, albeit I haven't recently been there due to the distance from me now.
