Sounds like they don't want to do it rather than can't. PelicanParts have a step by step guide with photos of how to remove the inlet manifold.

i haven't done it on the 2.8 yet myself, but I followed the guide for the 1.9 (Figs 1-29) and it was daunting but entirely possible

Is there one of the forum "Zed Sheds" near you. The guys in these communities can properly solve the problem with their morning tea meat pie tied behind there backs.

Evening John or should that be ey up m’duck given our locations,
I took my car out yesterday and it is no better so because I know of no Zed sheds anywhere I am tempted to go down the Pelican route which you mentioned.
At step 25 the sensors are shown which I believe need to be replaced, the question is how doable is it working from home, for instance is all the work done from above or do I need to work from below.
The other problem is the time of year to be working outside, under cover but possibly rather cool!
Your thoughts please. Mick.

Which sensors need replacing? The camshaft sensors? Both done from the top, no need to remove the inlet manifold.
