Worth it's weight in plastic.

Looking at the picture I'd guess that the bits are made from ABS or PC/ABS. Almost certainly made from a recycled grade which would be around €1200 per tonne, so there isn't much value in the material content. A bit of assembly work, probably done in Eastern Europe where the hourly rate is low, so no big costs there either.
Having worked all my life in engineering and manufacturing, I was always astounded at the difference between the price we got for our products at the factory gate and the final selling price on the market when it was us that did all the hard work in making the stuff in the first place.
Believe me, it won't be the manufacturer of those plastic mouldings that is making the money, it will be the various links in the supply chain all making their margin.

Where I once worked, we used to manufacture the interior door panels for the Ford Focus, Toyota Avensis, Toyota Corolla, etc etc.
Toyota used to pay £19 per front door panel, but to get one from the dealers was £185+VAT at the time.

Well with that price increase I guess they would need to be perfect Pete. Shocking how the mark up on these is so much but it applies to most things.

I've got a 6ft plastic palm tree. I bought it on Ebay when I got home p155ed from the pub one night. I got involved in a bidding war, probably with another p155 head and I'm ashamed to tell you how much it cost me
You should have been in our house when it was delivered. Jill kept staring at it and kept saying "What the f*** have you bought that for?"
