Zoom in on the road surfaces and you will see that this newly surfaced road which is supposed to be tarmac is in fact covered in a thick layer of loose stones. The road was closed for a couple days whilst 'works' were being done and is now reopened. It is busy at commuting times as well as being narrow and twisty in places.

Now which 3rd world tin pot dictatorship state would deliver such poor excuses for 'roads' do we think?

Looks like a Kent country lane on a sunny day !

I thought our roads are 3rd world compared to the rest of Europe. (Excluding Belgium)

It's got to be somewhere in England :p

You all are close.
It is the sunny state of Kentshire.
You see it's democracy without much knowledge of road building so I guess we should forgive them this prehistoric road building technique, after all it was a long time since the Romans were around to show them how to build a road....

Being ever so Health & Safety conscious, thankfully we benefit from wonderful signage informing us of their incompetence and making it our problem:

2 new windscreen chips from a car bombing it along the other way already, thankfully not the Z. Another road impassable for Z's, must be interesting on two wheels for sure...

Seriously how the heck does this pass the Hi Vis H+S brigade let alone common sense test?

I guess it's there take on traffic calming if it's a busy commuter road

I was stuck in a tailback while they did this down the road from me, except they put a layer of tar over the top to make sure those pesky stones didn't escape....

Just checked and even the romans didn't use gravel on the surface...this from a primary school education resource. We have a roman road runnnibg all the way through county too...Maybe our Highways dept bosses dropped out of school after yr1...

That looks like heaven compared to Lincolnshire roads, at least they resurface your roads =))

Could be worse :wideyed:

The road from RAF Mount Pleasant to Port Stanley (The Falkland Islands). Mainly an un-metaled over its 36 mile stretch with the odd mine field, focusses the mind :)

They put this type of surface down in Scotland what they will do is leave like that for a week or two then they will run a street sweeper up and down it to remove the top loose stone then the surface should be fine

I was just about to say this Steve, this is common practice for us up here, repair road, spray with hot bitumin, flood with small stones and let it bed in for a week or so, once the loose stones are swept up it will be fine.

What's the slowest thing in the world? A convoy of 20 zeds hitting a new section of stone chippings mid convoy... This was back in 2011...

Doesn't appear to affect the speed of white vans though.:(

I have only very recently realised that there's half a car on this road sign. Before, when ever I saw the sign I thought it was a hammer hitting the ground and making chippings!=))

I had a very embarrasing moment in a white van on a newly gritted road, it involved a 180 spin

If only a 180 you weren't really trying :D

Hate this type of surface dressing, yes they eventually come a sweep all the loose stuff up. By that time its usually been worked into the gutter so easily removed. But by then you have loads flying around often with tar on so you get that on the paint too

Its a cheap fix and just kicks the problem into the future, the tar fills any cracks first then the stones just mask this giving a bit of grip for the Autumn and following winter, couple of years later its redone.

Most of our roads are really crap tbh, and often any good surface put down ends up getting dug up within a month, as different depts. and utilities don't, cant or wont co ordinate before hand.

Unfortunately you've pretty much hit the nail on the head so to speak.
We definitely have some pretty rubbish surfaces and the amount of roads that remain in a poor condition for years is shocking.
I could name several A roads that are main routes here in Scotland that are in quite a poor condition at a number of bits.

They have used this type of "dressing" technique here in Lincoinshire all the years I have been driving, and some. Once it has been swept it isn't too bad. But then comes a stretch of very hot weather and then HGV,s turning tear it up and leave grooves across the carriageway.
My dad used to get "free" loads of these granite chippings for the lane up to his house, great fun bar rowing that dusty crap and raking it out.

Tony.
