Just spoke to Platinum Alloy Wheel Solutions in Swindon who used to be Lepsons about getting my 18" Breytons refurb'd. Powder coating is £63.60 per wheel (including chemical strip). One of the wheels has a flat spot on the inside of the rim, which will cost £12.00 to do at the time.

Not ever had a set of wheels refurb'd before, does this sound reasonable?

I'm going for an anthracite finish, and they have several shades available. Won't be able to decide on the exact shade until I see the demo wheels when I drop off.

Is there anything else I need to watch for with alloy refurbs?

It's a while since The Wheel Specialist did ours but I paid £60/wheel with new valves and balance
It's a national franchise so it may be worth giving them a call, otherwise I would say your quoted price is reasonable if you are getting the same.
The only things to look out for are the standard of finish (especially "orange peel" effect in tight corners) and cleanliness (no dust or debris etc) of the final lacquer.

That seems a good price gaz.

I paid around 90 per wheel.

They did a very good job though, and it was a special finish as well.

i would also reccomend the wheel specialist, cost me £360 inc vat for all 4 wheels which was a bit pricy but they did a good job. Some slight orange peel but is an unfortunate side effect of modern paints but its barely noticeable. The guy also offered free touch ups if i kerbed the wheels or if i was unhappy with the finish. I'd definitely go back there.

Another one here for the Wheel Specialist, if you are a BMWCC member they were offering a 15% discount with the code BMWGB15, Proof of membership required, maybe worth a call to see if the code is still valid?

I think thats a very reasonable price Garry i had mine done last year and paid £320 for the set, then went and
put the front, and rear nearside into a kerb within the first fortnight! ~x( Took them back to our local wheel specialist and
after a bit of a giggle he re-done the set again £150. Then we had our BMW car club day at Gaydon and we had
our night out together before the show, had us a meal and couple of beers and later we had a raffle and i won first
prize, :D and the prize was a full wheel refurb at the wheel specialist i used. And yes!! i have dinged the bleeding
wheels yet again but at least this time i got a freebe refurb. I must keep away from those kerbs :coolsteer)

Sounds like you need some extra parking sensors on the side your car! When I bought these wheels they had just been refurbed, and I think it lasted about 10 days before the first scuff... Makes you wonder why we bother!

Just dropped them down to Platinum and spent an interesting 40 minutes with them. Really impressed with the setup after spending some time in the workshop looking at colour shades on other customers wheels. They really look like they do quality work from what I saw.

Decided that Anthracite is just not what I'm looking for. Ended up choosing a colour from a set of 21" Range Rover alloys they just finished. Special order so an extra £30 for the paint!

He checked the 4 wheels in front of me, and could see that 3 need un-buckling rather than just the one I thought! Ho-hum.

Then of course the best bit. Needed to replace the two rears (one had been driven on flat). The fronts, although having plenty of tread, are cracking so need replacing too (age related they suspect)! :(

They look great Gary, your wallet will soon recover and then it'll be worth it.

Can't wait to see them on Zorg, best wait till the snows gone though eh? ;)

Hi all, I've been quietly enjoying reading the posts and getting a feel for the site whilst deciding what to do first. Had the Z3 nearly two months now and loving it. Had to get rid of everyone else's curbing first. I big shout out for Lepsons Gillingham kent. Left the car Monday they took the wheels off stored the car took tyres off refurbed to original and put it all back together to collect Wednesday evening. Great service and a great result

Yeah I quite agree doesn't matter how good the paint or shine is, your eye always falls to the wheels, I am really pleased with them. Lots still to do though.:)

Really nice looking wheels Si, I'm afraid the time is coming for mine too. I noticed some laquer lifting when I washed the car last weekend. We have a refurb company who we deal with through work. I will get prices and post the location for us "northerners".;)

They were done with "trade price" help but all in with new centre caps for around £300 I thought was good value
