Subject then to @jonco's final review, it seems then that all prefacelift cars have both plugs, but only the automatic version uses the front one. The front plug was then seemingly deleted for the manual cars on facelift. Is this how you read it?
Many thanks to Brian and jonco for unravelling this. Just now wonder what the wires coming out of my front plug do (or don't do).:)

@jonco the cable from the connector should go to the plug adjacent the brake fluid reservoir in the picture top of this page (post#21) If taht plug is missing from yours @Ianmc I think we have so.
Jonco got it right in his first post well done.
Well done @Brian4 it was a bit of hunch on the first post - have not got round to checking it yet - went for a walk today as weather Ok - and this hook came out of a pub doorway and pulled us in - big problem :whistle:

Assuming @Mazzas car is prefacelift, need to refine comment then so that " early prefacelift cars have both plugs". Suppose there is logic in that it was easier for early production to put in both, perhaps reduced later for production cost saving reasons.:)
