@jonco, does your automatic M44 have ASC? If so, Brian4 has likely cracked it. That said, there are wires attached to it!
Yes I have ASC - build date 12/97 - so Brian may have it - need to add that label Brian;).

Was just looking at other pics and diagrams - I think these are the ASC relays. positioned other side of engine bay. I'll trace the cable tomorrow if I have time.

EDIT - maybe not have found this in main fuse box in my pics

So if its ASC related, wonder now what my cables do (or don't do).

May just be the standard loom/harness installation - there are a few spare plugs around these cars for optional extras.

Just came across this thread curiosity got the better of me and it's not quite dark here yet so went out to look at both zed
Both have asc
Pre facelift m44 auto both plugs at fuse box have cables
Facelift m43 manual doesn't have the 2 plugs at the fuse box the 20 pin obd2 sits just down from the fuse box .

Just took a pic of mine. Build date Aug 1998, 1.9lt M44 manual
I have ASC but don’t have the second round pin connector.

And the loom tray cover is not missing , just off at the moment as doing the rocker cover gasket :)

Found this picture indicating the ODB connector arrowhead, but which also shows two connectors (zoom in ) on the right hand side. But it does have a top on it.
Can’t find any info of what it’s for though.

Found the connectors they are X20 and X69 on the ETM and looks as if X20 which is the one nearest the rad is to do with the aircon so I assume yours has no aircon @Ianmc
Mine does have aircon, that works really well. Therefore it seems that the mystery plug is not aircon related, nor does it seem to be ASC related. Anybody know if Sherlock works on cars!:thumbsup::)

Having looked at @Brian4 wiring diagram (thank you), wonder if it could be power hood related. If so, @jonco will have a power hood, as will @Brian4 (both have the plug cap) and @Jock67 will not have powered hood (no cap) like mine.
Does this logic stand up folks?

Been delving into the wiring diagrams again and looks as if X20 the one at the rear of the engine bay is the engine loom connector to the car loom and X69 towards the front is for the auto transmission.

@jonco the cable from the connector should go to the plug adjacent the brake fluid reservoir in the picture top of this page (post#21) If taht plug is missing from yours @Ianmc I think we have so.
Jonco got it right in his first post well done.
