Doesn't surprise me at all. It's a really lovely car.

I learn't when looking that if they're good they go very quickly.

Lucky new owner I say. Hope he drops by here,

:)

Ok Guys I'd like to know what the real differences are and if anyone has actually driven both.

They both are around the same money, but which is the better long term investment and what would a low mileage example cost?

Your thoughts please.... Which is the better????.... And why???
I appreciate that this is a bit late but.....
The Z4M has the newer and slightly more powerful engine BUT it is around 80kgs heavier and has the same manual gearbox as the E46 M3 and anyone who owned one of those and I did for just over 5 years and did over 100,000 will know that first to second was a pig in traffic. Whereas Alpina has the gearbox from the E36 M3 which has much better spaced ratios making it a much smoother drive. It also has a hand built engine which has been enlarged from 3.2 to 3.4 buy the magicians at Alpina and boy what an engine it is and as always the claimed power is alway conservative as many owners who have had theirs dyno'd will tell you that they come out around 320 bhp. I drove both cars before finally deciding on the Alpina and apart from electrical power steering issues which plague the whole range it is a dream. I bought the best that I could in 2011 which came from the home of a lady who bought it as her third car it had 3600 miles on the clock and had been to Sytners twice for servicing. It now has only 6000 miles and is in perfect condition, still smells like new, I love it and as they only built 167 right hand drive cars it is appreciating at a rate that Z4M drivers will never see.

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum from here near Lincoln. Why don't you post in the introduce yourself section along with some pictures of your gorgeous car, just to make us really jealous.:)

Hi Paul, c'mon put some pics up of your Alpina for us.:snaphappy::)
+1 and what build number is it?

Apparently January's EVO magazine is tipping the Alpina RS....
On another forum someone said:
Evo January edition [page 141] has the Roadster S featured as the next big thing to watch in the second hand car market. Simon de Burton says with 300bhp, six speed manual and up to 32mpg what are you waiting for...
