It's all coming together nicely. Today was roof replacement day with a trip up to The Soft Top Shop in Stockport. S*** drive but really worth it as the roof looks really good. It's slightly different from the original that came with the car as apparently it was a special colour that's not available anymore.

I can't believe it's been 2 years since I have updated the thread. So to bring things up to date here are a few things that have been done.

In Feb I took a trip down to Lydney to have the front springs and shocks changed by @Nodzed down at the Zedshed West. The rear had already been changed in March 2018 and the fronts had sat in the garage looking at me everytime I went in the there. Was it really so long ago, Niall. It's also had a vanos rebuild which was more about prevention rather than any issue.

Lock down has been a bonus for me as I've done things that I wouldn't have made the time to do.

The first was the drivers seat bolster which had collapsed. I followed the instructions to take the seat out that @Jjim put in his progress thread. These were really useful and without it I wouldn't have been able to do it, thanks @Jjim . I did a temporary repair holding the bolster with duck tape to stop it rubbing on the metal bar. Looks ok but will sort it properly some point soon (ish)

Next was the heater. It only worked on full and the general concensus was the heater resistor had packed up which is a common issue. As my car has aircon the resistor is located behind the front scuttle. It's straight forward to get to it by removing the wiper arms, scuttle clips and the scuttle which will give you access to the heater fan.

After removing the scuttle take the fan cover off and the resistor is located under the fan, the blue thing in the picture. It just slides out in an arc.

Now fitted and all working again.

Next was my first crack with a dual action polisher. The car had a lot of swirls in the paint work so I would have been happy just to make it a little tidier and do a little more the next time.

I didn't know how this was going to pan out or how long it would take so started early with a wash and a clay. Then went about going through 3 steps of a 3M set with cutting compound to remove scratches, a lighter compound for the swirls and finishing off with a finishing coat. I am really happy with the result and will have more confidence next time

It looks a lot better than it actually is and at some point could do with a respray.

Finally was a little thing that wouldn't have got done if I hadn't been bored.

The seals on the rear lights were a little white as I had got wax on them and were going green as the car lives outside next to a hedge.

I took the off and cleaned the seals then treated them with gummi pflege stift which brought them back to life. I also put some Poor Boys Natural Look on the covers. They came up really well.

Hopefully more to come soon after today's delivery

Had a go at the repair and refurb of the drivers seat.

I decided that the base bolster repair with duck tape wouldn't last long so I stripped it apart and added some padding over the bar so I'm hoping it will last a while. I managed to get the seat cover off without removing the seat base which saved me some time.

Now to the seat refurb. The first thing to do was the hole in the bolster. Really straight forward to do with easy to follow instructions in the kit and on the Furniture Clinic website. The area was trimmed and the repair patch glued in, picture before the glue.
20200419_143126.jpg

Then thin layers of filler to get it up to seat level, leave to dry and then colour with the base coat that comes with the kit.

The refurb was the next thing to be done. Unfortunately I don't have any bench space to do work on the car so had to improvise when it came to a spray booth. Professional or what? =))
20200420_152350.jpg

After prepping the seats cleaning the leather and stripping the seats were painted with 2 coats of colourant and the 2 coats of leather finish. There were multiple options for the top finish and I went for semi-matt.

The bolster repair has come up really well but it does show that it's worn as the pattern in the leather has gone.

Overall happy with the outcome as I've never done anything like this before and we'll see how long it lasts. The Mrs is too, as soon as she saw it she said 'Look great. Now you can do mine' :banghead:

School boy error today. I did it all over 2 days and left the seat connected in the car overnight so I could raise and lower the roof. Switched the ignition on today, lowered the roof and unplugged the seat without switching off the ignition. Now left with the airbag light on. ARGH!!!

Not sure what next apart from the rear beam after lock down @Lee ;)
