I'll try get some photos for y'all today, but I'll most likely be kept busy, looking after the nephew.

Here's a bit of background to keep you guys mulling over this:

What has FINALLY arrived, after TWO MONTHS of being stuck in the postal system, is a prototype that I've designed, with help from Barry (AKA Southernboy).

If it turns out that you guys really like what I've come up with, I'll look into getting some made up for other members also :)

The moment you have all (/some have) been waiting waiting for....

Since fitting my car with hoops and acquiring a mesh wind deflector nearly a year ago, I have always hated the fact that I have to hide my beautiful hoops in order prevent 'bad wind' in the cockpit ;) I have also hated the idea of fitting one Perspex sheet to the back or front of the hoops, as this would potentially mean loss of access to the rear storage compartment, and make the hoops seem like leaning posts.

So I went about designing my own wind deflector, and pictures below show just the first parts of it.

I wanted a deflector that looks modern and has a removable centre partition, made from mesh, that is independent to the rest. BUT, and most importantly, it mustn't hide the hoops or make it look like the hoops are only there to support the deflectors. I wanted the hoops to be appreciated as their own entity, and my deflector to float effortlessly inside and between the hoops.

So, finally, here is the first part of the prototype (and I'm sharing it with you for feedback, please) - Mk. 1 Roll Hoop Inserts.

Let me know what you guys think!
I will be designing the mesh wind deflector to fit between the two hoops, that will potentially be attached to (and removable from) these Perspex inserts, but free from the hoops. More thought is required on this part though.

As a side note - the pictures below are just of a dry-fit. When correctly fitted the brackets will be completely 'snug'

TIA
David

P.S. - Yes, my car interior is still 'work in progress' :D

The roll hoops look good, David. A smoked Perspex wind deflector would complete the look.

Unfortunately I only have my iPhone to work with so it's difficult to see details but I do like the concept. JIM

I like the look but dont know if it will be effective at stopping and wind. Can you please report on the trials you have done? The wind seems to come from the middle section between the hoops and blows on my left ear. Does the wind actually come throug the hoops?

Cracking idea, I think as someone already said a Perspex centre piece, like roadster solutions item HT posted would be good, one thing for me that needs a bit more thought is the fixing method, but for first attempt excellent.

To be honest, I think that thing that Roadster Solutions sell looks like a 'serving hatch' and if you had Grandma in the boot, you could lift it up and pass here the flask of tea.

I've been wondering if there is something like this out there as I likethe idea of the mesh that is easily detachable for the middle section.

I have a full clear Perspex Winblox from the US on mine - brilliant at blocking wind and giving perfect visibility.
But I would like to be able to access the rear area for storage or cleaning of the window etc without removing the entire Perspex unit (and without lowering the roof).

So for this purpose it would have to flexible material like mesh. It won't be so see through or neat as Perspex but I can live with that for the practicality.the mesh also means you can just clip it off/unzip/unbutton and leave it hanging, a Perspex piece would storing in a way to prevent scratching...

Very interested to see what you come up with and costs.

Well done so far!

@David do the hoop inserts actually stop wind effectively like the screen or the perspex sheeting?
