Urgent Help Needed

@Brian4 There's plenty of work here if you fancy :whistle: perhaps it's worth waiting till the days get a bit longer before you do come again, as you saw the project car has a fair few bits left to do, but if you ever have a day to spare do let me know. :)

It was lovely to meet you too.

This is what the car is like on a cold start. Today morning it stalled twice - - as you can see in the video it stalls within the first couple of seconds. After about a minute with the engine running the misfires disappear and the car is smooth to drive with no other hiccups.

I don't like creating too many different threads and as this is a misfire issue I feel like it should be posted here.

Only codes I'm getting are:
Misfire in multiple cylinders
And a P0130 which I believe is for the o2 sensor.

Cam sensor was replaced last year but @Brian4 did point out that if this was cheap then it may be failing again.

Just wanted to get some more thoughts and opinions on what the issue maybe?

I think @Brian4 is right... Cam sensor is what to look at first.

Ignore the O2 sensor code until you get it running on all cylinders, the rough running has probably set that code, as the others suggest check out the cam sensor, swap for a known good one and see of that makes any difference.

@Uncle_Clanger @colb Thanks both, cam sensor it is then. I'll give that a shot this weekend and see if that makes a difference.

@hardtop I'd never looked at it in that way but I guarantee that's going to be stuck in my head for ages now. Thanks :D

@Brian4 Thanks for this, I was having a look but it appears that the link you've posted is for the M43 118bhp engine.

I have the 140bhp M44 engine and was wondering whether the camshaft sensor you posted will work with my engine.

When I put my reg in on the site and had a look for cam sensors I couldn't find any besides from a delphi one -- which was not cheap.

Looks as if the M44 is a different one sorry. Does yours have a long cable with it?

@Brian4 I'm not sure, plan for this weekend is to remove the cam sensor from the project car and put it in my car.

The project car already has an issue with the cam sensor, in that sense that it gives really poor fuel efficiency and is throwing a cam sensor code, however, there are no issues of a hard start with it or a rough idle.

If I swap the sensor, leave it a night and test the car the following morning, this should give me a clear indication of whether the sensor is at fault.

M44 will have a long lead on it, M43 is the sensor with just the socket on it.

@Brian4 Hi mate, I have a friend who works in parkers parts and he's able to offer me a lucas camshaft pos sensor for £30 - are these any good?

Not sure but they are part of the Delphi group

I'll risk it then, they do offer a 3 year warranty as well so that is an added bonus.

Replaced the cam sensor today with the lucas one, hopefully that fixes the problem but time will only tell.

@Brian4 I felt that the car was a bit more lively and responded a bit better when I put my foot down but I don't know whether that's just in my head. It wasn't a phenomenal difference. There weren't any misfires with the old sensor once the engine had reached temperature.

The actual rough start only happens in the morning or if the car has been sat more than 7 hours or so.

Tomorrow morning is the true test.

Let us know tomorrow then Faheem.

Tony.

@Faheem hello mate. A long shot but are all the plugs in OK? I had a cross threaded plug on an Ople Ascona many years ago, similar symptoms to yours, rubbish start up (took a while) but ran OK once warm. Just a thought mate?
