I sealed my trim piece / cowling with butyl tape - this is what the factory did but it dries overtime. I also used a thin layer of black silicone sealer a little bit further up for good measure on the very edge of the cowling against the windscreen. Water would typically get past the factory seal when it gets dry between the glass and the plastic trim and drip over the motor cowling and the openings on the sides and maybe even the fan cowling seal against the body is also perished and water gets in. it's much better to seal this really well so the water slides over the trim piece over the blower motor entirely and collects near the wiper motor spindles then drips down some drains that are around that area where it can't cause that much damage if drains are clear on the wiper motor well.
So, would you seal the little drain holes above the fan motor in the trim piece. These are positioned so that the water drains into the two main drains I think and if sealed, would result in a small pond in the middle of the scuttle trim piece? I was delighted to find that the water content has reduced dramatically overnight see pic. Another day should do it and I can start to put it all back together.

Sorry if I didn't explain properly do not seal those drain holes they are exactly where the water is supposed to drain, what you need to do is seal the trim to windscreen line where the butyl factory tape is underneath the trim piece go and remove it and put new one, so no water goes between the trim and the windscreen/body and runs down to those drains

Got it and have just got back from getting some butyl sealing tape. Plus I will put a line of clear sealant further up too.

Its the grey piece of plastic full width of the car at the bottom of the windscreen, partially overlapped by the bonnet and through which the windscreen wiper pivots protrude. It has a grill at either end.

ohhh I see, so I can remove that bit and re-seal it -- easily enough? I noticed a clip was missing, last time I cleaned the car...

Yes easy enough. The worst bit is getting the wiper arms off the spindles. For the clips, you remove the T shaped piece first (two small screwdrivers) then the plug that's left. You might want to get some new ones especially if you are missing one anyway, before you start. Have a look at the following link as it shows the clips after removal and helps to know what to expect

The glass to seal pressure is adjusted by means of a 10mm headed bolt on the underside of the door on the hinge end. It is in an elongated slot for adjustment of this seal.
Thats intersting, I never knew this :thumbsup:
