Turkey (The country)

We went to Menorca some years ago beautiful green island, but IIRC seasonal and October was right at the end.Stayed at the Hotel San Valentin at Sanbou. Very nice place.

Tony.

what a coincidence! We've stayed at San Valetine twice. 1st was great, 2nd time Thomson had started free childrens places, had some very loud, rough, northern chav families in which really lowered the tone, even the staff were clearly not happy.

We've not long been back from Turkey, we had 3 fantastic weeks starting from Goreme in central Turkey and ending in Dalyan on the coast, the internal coaches are brilliant. We were back before the coup attempt but that all seems to be settling down.
Turkey along with many countries in that part of the world have always been slightly unsettled but when you look at the cold statistics you're far more likely to be involved in a fatal accident on UK roads than a terrorist attack, Having said that I would think twice about it if I was taking my children, when it's just me and Mrs Z then we do our best to stick two fingers up to these disgusting bast*rds. Personally I'd still go back to Turkey even now, but it's very much a personal choice.

Our upcoming cruise has just had an itinerary change, we're no longer going to Kusadasi in Turkey.

Rhodes instead so I'm happy with that.

Wise decision.
Seems that the new Stalin of Turkey will not end soon its political revenges.

Sat in Spain right now! As someone else suggested, fly to Malaga and just drive north away from all those tourist hotspots. This is the view from our roof. We are on the edge of a beautiful small town 45 mins from Seville where nobody speaks English! The real Spain.

Alternatives which we have loved include Malta (Corinthia at San Anton is great) and Croatia (Split and the islands close by)

But don't give up on Spain!!

Thanks. The view is rather unspoilt! We have decided to put the money aside and book a week before we go. I would think in October we will still get a bit of choice.

And they say if you have the patience to wait until the last moment, "the last minute offers" are a bargain! Why not, it's part of the adventure?!

Hopefully Dan, that is the plan.

Pretty much exactly as we've always done even for the four and five trips to Europe in 83,85,87,89 and91( I stayed home with the boys and Joan took my Mom andAunt. Never had a plan on where to go just made a bit of a plan each morning and if we took a wrong road we went to see what was along the way and found soooo many places we never would have seen! Travel on!! JIM
