OK, we have a holiday booked in October to stay at our friends apartment in Guluk, Turkey. After the events of last night this may well have to change as Jue is now understandably a little unerved by what's gone on. We have some Turkish currency in the safe (albeit not to much) that if I change back to euros for example will make me nothing.
So do we hang on and see if things settle or do we go somewhere else? We won't loose anything by moving other than the currency.

Feeling grumpy
Grumps.

I wouldn't visit any Muslim country at this present time.

I'd be reading the fine print on any travel insurance you bought. Also keep an eye on the foreign office website for guidance about travel overseas.

Till October is a long way to go.
Turkey was always a safe country.
Riots, coup d'etat, protests, etc are part of the modern life.
I'm sure you will be there in three months and back safe and sound.

Erm it's a tough call Garry. We're due to be visiting Jues best mate in Dubai in April but I can't see that being any issue. Just wondering whether to bring that forward to October instead and scrap Turkey. The issue is we were going with my in laws and they won't be coming to Dubai. May just have to do a cattle grid holiday instead where the in laws will still come with us but I can't be doing with Spain or Spanish islands. Where else is still good to go in October. Needs to be sensible money tho.

I wouldn't go :p
I'd be too scared ;)
But saying that it could happen any where :(
But I still wouldn't go :)
Too much is going on at the moment :)

We have ongoing travel insurance Gaz with our bank. It's more about Jue being on tender hooks really. I don't want to go out there and her be sat worrying all holiday.

I'm enclined agree with you Dan but Jue gets very unerved when things like this happen. We booked a holiday in Turkey some years ago and a bomb went of a month before we were due to go. She wouldn't go so we had to change it. I totally get where she's coming from although I don't let these things bother me the same as she does.

Any suggestions where to go in October? Nothing Spanish and i can't afford long haul.

How about Portugal, we're not keen on Spain but we love the Algarve. We usually stay in Lagos.

I must admit I have enjoyed my holidays in Turkey. Istanbul was great looking round the site's

Portugal, the Canaries or Cyprus (Paphos end) are all great mate.

Why not Spain. There are some fantastic places in Spain just keep away from the main resort areas like Benidorm, Magaluf etc. We go to Spain regularly. Mallorca is great if you do the Northern End such as Cala Bona and Cala Millor. Costa Blanca has some really nice areas such as Javea and the Altea Hills as does Salou. The locals are great and much more helpful than those in France and will try and do more for you. Do not write a whole Country off because of a few main resort areas.
