Told off by the Police.

Since the age old debate of "reasonable force" has been raised, allow me to shed some light...

Any force used must be "proportionate" but no where does anything say "minimum force". Minimum force could be asking nicely, proportionate force (depending on the individual circumstances) could be a anything up to and including lethal force.

The sensible advice is to avoid conflict. That said we are entitled in law to use proportionate force to protect ourselves, others and our property. Just stay safe.

In Florida they have a "Stand your ground" law where you are entitled to use deadly force if you beleive your life is in danger. However this is being tested to a point of being repealed, mainly after a high profile case a couple or so years ago.

I think this says it all. The responsible thing is to acknowledge the law and plan to live by it.

But in the heat of the moment what we might do is a very different thing. However you not only put yourself at risk but risk getting in trouble with the law if you use excessive force.

I’ve also tackled a criminal before. So I’m familiar with the adrenaline rush that causes. And so is the thief who I literally picked up by the lapels and threw several feet. What a very satisfying feeling though :)

I'd do the same as you , I think nearly everyone would do , good for you , why do some people think they can do this and get away with it :p
Because they do get away with it, which is sad but true.

Cuts = less cops=more prioritizing=less incidents/crimes investigated=p***** off people and p***** off cops.

Reasonable force depends on the situation and no two situations are ever the same.

What you want to do and what is classed as reasonable force are probably very different.

The Court will decide. (If it ever gets anywhere near a court)

Well done mate for getting stuck in!!
If that was me i would of been out there as well but with a sharp high heel shoe

Where does one draw the line, I have a weapon that I would have no hesitation to use should a perp enter my property, ultimately I have to protect my wife and daughter and I dare say using the said weapon could be fatal

Reasonable force
In the given circumstances
Every case is different.

I understand that if you catch someone entering your home you're entitled to persuade them not to, but, if they're leaving you have to let them leave? That is, you can't shoot them in the back with a 12 bore ............................. much as they deserve it:(

Tony.

Everyone wants to smash em up, beat em up, teach em a lesson, sort em out etc etc lalala which is understandable when they are annoyed upset etc.

Just remember you may or may not end up in court as a result of your actions if they are deemed excessive and the court will decide what to do with you.

Most scrotes know their rights better than the average person.

Deep breaths and THINK

Fun fact:
You're correct that you can't shoot them in the back, however you are entitled to detain them. In fact, when a crime in being committed you have the same power to detain them as any constable. The only power of detention that a police officer has that muggles don't is to arrest someone BEFORE they commit an offence if they believe they are about to. Other than that you can lawfully detain them at the time of, or on suspicion they have committed an offence. All the legislation on use of force applies here too though.

As much as what you say is the law I still wouldn't hesitate, and if I had to stand in a court of law for my actions then so be it.

If you can justify your actions as reasonable force in the circs then you have no problem whatsoever, I totally agree. i HAVE DONE SO MANY MANY TIMES:thumbsup:

Your Honour,

He only left the house so as to go to his tank which was parked outside pointing towards my house after saying

'I'LL BE BACK TO FINISH YOU'

That is why I shot him in the back.

If I reached under our bed chances are I'd have to chase an intruder down the stairs with a rampant rabbit, and no guessing where I'd shove it if I caught them.

Jill used to be an Ann Summers rep and she's got a toy box that would make Rambo wince …….. and I work away a lot =))
