To sorn or not?

Cancelled MOT this week after getting 6mths extension. I'll keep it taxed and insured even though we have a second vehicle. Never know when your going to need a second set of wheels in a emergency so never really considered SORN. Filled up both last week and neither used since. I ventured out of my garden for the first time since last Thursday to pop round my lockup to run the engine up for the sake of the batt. Boring I know but it's going to get even more boring when all the jobs are done and all the Clint Eastwood westerns are run for the 10th time. Aaaaaaaaaer. Starting a new learning curve today but found the tele home education classes for the 5-7 yr olds too demanding.:wacky:

RHA,Roy.=))

Depends on your conscience and your bank balance.

These are not normal times.

The country needs money. If you don't need to claim it, don't.

It's different if you need the money, but I expect to not be spending very much, so I don't need to earn as much.

did the m.o.t on my 1.9 just over a week ago, i did it a month early so as to get a 13 month m.o.t. taxed it too, and will use it for any shopping or running about for my brother and mother in law if they need assistance, I, did some shopping the other day and elected to not put the roof down i felt it a bit inappropriate with the current conditions happening.... i hope conditions will change pretty soon though. I did have plans to m.o.t. my motorbike and put that on the road but dont think its very important at the moment

everyone keep safe and see you all on the other side...

I've seen an MG Midget and a "B" roadster this week both with top down, is it OK with a British Classic?

Tony.

Perhaps we should bear in mind that the population of the UK is around 65 million, with a life expectancy of around 80ish. Bit of simple maths should tell you that there must be over 750,000 deaths a year due to natural causes. I know that this virus is a bad thing, but set against that kind of (inevitable) number a bit of top-down driving on a nice day can't be all that bad. We already have a hell of a lot of overweight fresh air dodgers around, a chance of some free vitamin D shouldn't be missed. Along with all the others, of course.

Not going to SORN, as already pointed out, the government need all they can get at the moment, also if I need to get essentials I can take the z for a run

I have just sorned ours. Will re tax when we can use it properly. But dont think this will be untill July

I used to put my Z3 on a 6 month (winter) SORN every year, but now I’ve found a much better way. What you do is to tax the car online using the DVLA monthly direct debit facility. If you then decide to take the car off the road, you declare SORN online, and the direct debit facility automatically stops for the next month. You can do all this online, and it’s much better than the old system of waiting for a refund cheque, and then having the hassle of cashing it.

Thinking of SORNing both Zeds tbh. Little chance of using them and if you do I suspect you're going to be stopped instantly you put the roof down. Will be accused of driving for pleasure even if it is a critical or essential journey.
My thoughts exactly. If we can get back to work anytime soon I tend to rotate between the zed and daily when the weather is nice but would be concerned like you say of being seen as pleasure driving even though I'd only be on route home from work.

I never SORN the zed just in case it is needed, if a daily is off the road it does come into play though it is a last resort. It doesn't really cost much to keep it road legal so that's as it stops. Obviously we are barely using any cars but I'll still leave it as it is for now.

Around here they are driving tin tops with face masks on. Also behind a guy queuing to go into Tesco's with a face mask and the dirtiest pair of disposable gloves you have ever seen. Tee shirt and top down for me when possible. Keep up the hand washing and distance; and smile please!!:)

Been sorned since late sept occasional run on drive + ctek as must :) tempted to put her back on road but at £25 a month might leave it longer :)

Just brought mine out of Sorn - so will use for essential journeys > Pharmacy - Milk and Bread - keeping journeys to a minimum - saving a few quid on petrol too!

Stay safe and keep well all!

Ref my last post on this subject, I received a text from the garage that they had to shut as two staff have gone into self isolation with the virus symptoms. At the time I booked then cancelled my conscience told me that I shouldn’t go for this MOT test as I was supposed to be in 12week isolation, then the Gov stepped in with the 6mth extension which sealed it for me. Luck just might have something to do with it too. Obvious to me now how risky it is going out even for things we think are important, bit of a wake up call. Only going out now in my garden and family will shop for us when they do theirs, then leave it on our doorstep, will converse when they’re safe distance back up the front garden path, middle white line. =))
Three COVID-19 lines, first at gate for possible infected cold callers, second for family, third for burgers so they don’t trip and claim. Yes I know you'll never be able to reach the door bell only the burglars and happy for them to use it.:snaphappy:

Been meaning to paint these lines on our garden steps for the last "cough cough" years, now the visitors won't fall up/down our concrete steps in the dark, it's just that now done they can have a double use. Confirms I'm actually looking for things to be done. Should I put up a notice ref the COVID-19 first and second steps.????

RHA, Roy.

PS; flower pots were to protect wet paint, now gone and that rusty gate latch and hinges are now painted.:spam:
