With the M.O.T. done on Bluebird, the tax is up at the end of the month. I can't see us coming out of lockdown any time soon, so I am thinking of taking her off the road for the time being. Your thoughts, comments are most welcome. Phil.

Thinking of SORNing both Zeds tbh. Little chance of using them and if you do I suspect you're going to be stopped instantly you put the roof down. Will be accused of driving for pleasure even if it is a critical or essential journey.

My Zed is on sorn at the moment and will leave it till May at the earliest , will have to be content with driving up and down my 35 foot drive with top down

Willow was MOT'd last week but I'm leaving her on SORN, I was getting her ready for the lakes but don't see the point in putting her on the road now tbh.

I went Asda shopping yesterday and I put my roof down on the way home , I must admit I did feel guilty with all off this going on :(

Actually this is a valid question, I have been thinking about this myself. I am overseas atm, so 'Percy' is in the garage at home with a trickle charger on. Herself is insured to drive it but doesnt. The Lad asked me if he could 'drive it for me to turn the engine over' (his sister did use it for a week or so while hers was being repaired). He thinks hes being hard done by because he bought a more reliable car.

Are there any negatives to Sorn'ing a vehicle ? I dont know (I've never done it), is it just a declaration, does it do anything to mot / insurance etc ?

Mine is sorn’d for obvious reasons....but no point in rushing and putting it back on the road yet, may as well wait until there is somewhere to go thats not off limits. Saving on the insurance too.

I can't see the issue with roof down. No different to walking past someone in a shop without a helmet.

The rules are about when you can use a car - for essential only.

Doing mine till further notice its so easy to do. As soon as current situation improves re tax it.

So long as you've got somewhere off-road to keep it there's no problems. If anyone did ask questions I feel the current situation should be justification enough. And there are other things for officialdom to be worried about just now, surely?

I've decided to SORN the 2.4L automatic Volvo estate - we're not going to be having anyone else in the car, and the Z3 uses significantly less petrol. And the Volvo won't put a smile on my face on shopping trips, and I may be needing that in the months to come. And with the £75 refund I'm due, I could buy a new coil pack to replace the cracked one on Ratty

Cheers

Paul

Just been to Tescos for the shopping, first time in nearly 2 weeks, took the e89, roof down, didn't feel guilty at all, not hurting anyone ;);)

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it from a legal point of view. But - I just had to go in to Leicester to pick something up for my son so he can continue to work here. Just driving out away from a junction a guy gives an almighty sneeze right over my car without attempting to cover his face. Just a few feet away. Disgusting! All I would say is be careful where you go topless. My other concern is that some will simply judge that you’re out to enjoy a drive with no other reason. That said, after the earlier incident don’t think I’ll be out top down in any built up area :meh::grumpy::hungover:

I agree. The point was equally you could be sneezed on in a shop or going for exercise.

Personally the roof is staying up for me.

If I use mine and weathers good, it will be roof down - regards SORN I briefly thought about it, but decided against.

My reasoning was that I've already paid it for the year, and if I SORN'd it I would potentially save 1 or 2 months money at the most.

However by SORNing I would cost the Gov a bigger chunk of money which would sit in the bank until I re taxed the car - and this at a time when revenue has already dropped considerably and the coffers need to be full as possible. To pay out for major expenditures at this time.
I don't mind losing a months tax money in this instance, as I had already paid it, a small hit in reality to me.

Mines SORN at the moment and would of taxed it from the beginning of March normally but I’ll be leaving it for now.

Mine has been SORNed since December but will be taxed on the 1st April regardless because
  1. I have to go to work
  2. My wife may need it has she has signed up as a NHS volunteer and she can't drive the daily
  3. The weather is good
  4. I have to shop
  5. There's no traffic
  6. I need to bed in my new brakes and cone filter
  7. I may not be around to enjoy it the way things are going.

Mine is staying on the road mainly because it lives under a carport and will be used for essential shopping trips to keep rust from starting on the discs. Top down? Not for me, I don't think it's appropriate to be seen as out enjoying ourselves as people potentially are dying around us.

I won't be sorning the z but might sorn the daily, the only reason I need it is for towing my trailer with garden waste to the dump and they are closed.
