Been riding bikes for 24 years.

I've never come off it, but then I'm careful, and I've never ridden between traffic like many do.

But now it's the mobile phone thing, not people talking, it's the ones that are doing Facebook etc staring into the phone rather that at the road.

I can react to things that happen in front of me, but twice recently I've had cars slam the brakes on behind me. It's pretty obvious they're not looking where they're going.

Gutting because I love the bikes, but I've come to the conclusion it's only a matter of time before some one looking into their phone takes me out from behind.

Sorry for the rant.

Sadly this disease won't get any better any time soon either.

I see it all day every day Tim, being a lorry driver I can see down into the cars next to me, it is unbelievable the amount of people that have there phones on their laps looking at whatever whilst driving or stationery at lights and junctions. I don't honestly think I'd be over doing it saying 50%+ are guilty.

Phones should not be allowed inside the passenger compartment of any vehicle. They should be locked in the boot, the Bluetooth will still work.

I have to agree with all these comments, when me, our Gary and Sarah took a taxi from OIA to Intl. Drive in Orlando the lady driver was constantly on her phone either calling or texting. We were all gobsmacked!

Tony.

It's a sorry state of affairs when we don't feel safe on the roads because of the blight of drivers distracted by there phones :(.
I think the name and shame theme is a good idea, but how would we get the evidence.......with the camera on our phones ? And even then would the powers that be even bother ?.

It was made an offence if Florida about 2 years ago I think Steve, but only as a secondary offence. So basically if you were pulled over for another matter they could also do you for using your phone. i.e. If you crashed while using your phone and killed someone, they would charge you with using your phone while driving!! It's currently under review I believe to make it an offence in it's own right.

When were over there some years ago just about everyone driving was using a mobile as there was no law against it. I didn't know they brought in that law Tony,at least they're going in the right direction with the law.

Steve

Yep I realise that mate but common sense doesn't seem to prevail here even in the UK where it is illegal.

Steve
My point exactly mate illegal or not it shouldn't be done

Slowly but surely Steve.

Inward facing camera in all cars coming of the production line as standard. When a vehicle is involved in an accident the police download the camera. If your not guilty of anything you'd have nothing to be bothered about. I have a outward facing camera in my truck. If I'm involved in anything my gaffer will take the sim card out to view it looking at the reflection in my windscreen. Amazing what you can see!

1 a 2000 pound fine &
a ban for 3 month so they have a idea what its like to not have the use of a car
2 if caught again 5000 & a years ban ( you were warned )

2 injury by dangerous driving 10 years prison 15.000 pound in costs same as above
3 just a accident 5 years prison 5,000 pound
