Not even considering doing the Z4, did my Z3 at roughly 70K. Z3 was improved by doing it as was my mates 7 series when he had it done.
I've been on here several years now and there are quite a few Auto owners on the forum and I have yet to hear of anybody having Auto box problems so I wouldn't lose too much sleep.:)

Tony.
What was the problem with Mozza’s @t-tony?
That was just after he had a fluid change wasn’t it?
Like I said the chances of problems are small but when they do crop up they’re show stoppers.

I would say the main problem there was abuse.

Tony.

ps. To be honest I had forgotten about Maurice's car which goes to show how rare it is?

Hopefully...the gearbox will work out okay then?!

Everyone....thanks so much for the welcome and advice already. I will try to co tribute in some way and will certainly be getting myself some stickers for the car :)

Hasn’t got PDC I noticed....not a show stopper for me, but that long bonnet might make it tricky for SWMBO?! Looking forward to seeing it and will see what it’s like. Already know it needs a nearside headlight washer cover for the bumper....!! Plan will be to do some bits over the winter (use it during as well!). I can feel:

A new exhaust
19” wheels
Motor relocation
Possible PDC
Induction mod

All coming on......

Hello.
Z4s are quite modable with little things to make life better such as a Gaptec roof module so you can open and close the roof off the key. Such as exhausts you have a variety of options and will depend on how much you want to shell out, i have a Scorpion on mine but was not cheap.
Also can do things such as Brake Discs and pads be careful of cheap pads as can cause a lot of brake judder at speeds. Most go for Mtec Discs as they are a good decent Disk at a reasonable cost. Can also go down the line of Suspension upgrades either Bilstein B12 Kit or coil overs. Do not expect to be able to gain BHP wise as you probably already know not worth it with a NA Engine

Mozzas box kept going into limp mode and throwing Auto box faults, they told him it needed refurbing and caused him loads of grief as was still not right when it was done, i think he found a sensor had either gone faulty or was maybe missed when gearbox got refurbed

@ billz

Zorst for sure.....!! Would be into some suspension upgrades too. I can see this becoming a bit of a “hobby” car as well as an every (other) day driver

Guys.....HELP!!!! Fast!!!!! PLEASE!!!

So...car seems okay all over....a few bits and bobs....but..... STINKS of burning oil and can see smoke. No burning oil smell out of the exhaust. I think it’s a rocker cover gasket leak or something....as you open bonnet, look to the left as you look from the front, and smoke coming out of the left side....like it’s leaking on the exhaust, around by the big heat shield. We all think it’s just an easy leak/gasket fix?? Def burning oil/leaking on exhaust smell and not using it in the engine.

Oil is clean (regularly topped up???) and no mayo in thebheader tank etc. No smoke on start up, only steam. Steering good. Great spec it seems and even the roof works (though issue with window drop....more later). Gonna drive it some more now....

Has the seller mentioned having the rocker cover gasket replaced recently? Not income problem, so possibly remnants of oil leak that has been fixed maybe.
When you get home get a can of Cif Bathroom mouse and use it to clean of the side of the engine and exhaust (best to let it cool down first). You just spray it on and gently rinse with cold water.
Hopeful then you can see if there has been, or still is, a leak there.

Tony.

Thanks Tony. It’s a bunch of traders....they buy cheap and sell cheap. They do t know much.....it seems a genuine car. The leak would put owners off. I think it got PX’d at a main stealer and then threw trough an auction house. No horrible noises. All seems original.

If it’s a rocker cover gasket....easy fix??

Not difficult if you're handy with spanners and sockets etc. mate. Probably worth checking that all the rocker cover fixings are tight before doing anything else.

We have a bulk tank of 5W/30 semi synthetic at work and I use that. People have their own favourites and every so often there's a huge debate on here about what's best.
By a known brand and you'll be fine.

Tony.
