Most of the bolts were OK to take out but this one was a real pig had to cut a slot in the head then used a large screwdriver.

Photo below front a build up of muck not to bad considering thats taken 21 years

below muck removed still no signs of rust

so decided to use Vactan all you need to do is paint it on and when dried paint over whatever you feel like using, not like some other rust treatments that you have to clean of afterwards

this is just one application and have now applied a 2nd coat to the missed parts as well:woot:

I used Vactan on the inner sills as well, I also decided to treat the cavities on the inner sills with dynnax s-50

Just been onto Jue about this today. Noticed some blistering underneath both sills so I think i'll run this summer and then it can go in at the end of the season for a new pair. I doubt it'll be a cheap repair but need to look after the old lad.

Great job the two of you. I’ve not heard of that rust prevention stuff before like you said all the other stuff seems to need washing off befor you can paint over it. It looks like it actually works on the rust as well. ( Great set of pictures).

Great job Baz, well worth doing .

I really ought to take mine off for a clean out. They are only two years old, top bloke @Sean d fitted me some new ones but I imagine after a fair few farm yard rallies with......guess who :whistle:they are harbouring some good quality top soil. A job for the warmer months.

Looks like a good job and not too much rust. If you haven't done so already take the jack pads out and treat the rust under them. That's where my sills were worst affected.
If you look at the underside of the inner sill to floor joint you should see that two of the embosses are slightly domed and higher than the others. These are the inner sill drains. Give them a poke with the end of a cable tie too ensure they are clear and the anti-corrosion wax has not obstructed them.
Lets hope that the other side is as good as the first.
I also replaced all the fixing bolts with stainless steel screws and washers (with wax applied) to, hopefully make sure they are easy to remove in a couple of years time when I inspect the sills again.

Have only done one side but I think you maybe able to treat both, but going to such lengths removing the sills I would get two.

Farm mileage? Really? Why on earth would you want to do that Steve? =)). Do you know how to change the sills? If so we might need to have a date ;)
