You and my wife have exactly the same priority, first on the list of must haves is somewhere safe to park the Z. But even checking ahead and looking up revues from recent guests we came unstuck in Dijon. Luckily there was safe attended parking nearby. And again on the return journey we had booked ahead for one night into a Premier Classe hotel in Annemasse but when we got there and saw the really rough area and the cramped car park the wife did not want to stay so we lost 45 Euros for late cancellation. The Inter Hotel nearby was safe with good parking. Better to lose a few quid than get the knocked or worse still stolen.Great write up! Thanks for sharing.
In the future trip don't hesitate and make a very detailed trip plan with side roads and night booked. Beside the wonderful secondary roads, you'll save money and always your Zed will be in a safe place. For me the first condition when booking a hotel is : "do they have a safe place to park the Zed?". And always checked the photos , google earth and revues (!).
A trip without "surprises" takes almost the same time to be prepared.
