Goodbyes all said it was time for a quick photo with our cars lhd twin before going our own ways. Most folk had packed and were going straight home, most of them within about 4 hours drive but we had booked another extra night at the resort for a bargain 66 euros b&b so it was back there for the night to make plans for the trip home.

Later I will briefly log the trip home, a mixture of long motorway blasts and a day out in the totally beautiful town of Annecy.

Before heading for home we decided to head across country to Florence. Dropping down into the city we stopped at a viewing point on the Piaza d'Michaelangelo. Touring round the city

we're lucky to drop on a hotel just walking distance from the sights of the city. Not quite so lucky with the parking though as the Z was too low to go down the steep ramp into the underground parking without grounding out. This would have cost 15 euros which was bad enough but we ended up paying 25 euros for street level parking under cover. Ouch.

Sadly we could only get the one night in the hotel so next day it was up sticks again for a long blast up to Annemasse in France just a few miles from the Swiss border. The idea was to go into Geneva for the day on Wednesday but thankfully we decided against this and after a good nights rest we drove about 25 miles in the opposite direction from Geneva to a lovely lakeside town called Annecy. The purest lake in all Europe the water can be drunk directly from the lake at the town fountain. The town is a mini Venice with canal side bars and restaurants. Well worth a visit.

No speed limit on the lake. We were cracking on but this fella blasted past.

Sightseeing done with for this holiday so back to Annemasse for another night then another good days blast up to Cambrai for an overnight stopover before the short hour and a half run up to Calais on Friday morning to catch the train. We arrived over an hour too early but were ushered straight on to the first train which seemed strange as there were several lanes queueing. Not about to argue though.
Off the train at Folkestone in to typical British traffic, nose to tail in 3 lanes all the way until we got on the M40. Splash and dash at the first services and then plain sailing all the way home even dropping the roof for the last few miles from the M54 along the A41 getting home mid afternoon.

Great write up! Thanks for sharing.
In the future trip don't hesitate and make a very detailed trip plan with side roads and night booked. Beside the wonderful secondary roads, you'll save money and always your Zed will be in a safe place. For me the first condition when booking a hotel is : "do they have a safe place to park the Zed?". And always checked the photos , google earth and revues (!).
A trip without "surprises" takes almost the same time to be prepared.
