Having replaced all the suspension and steering I'm guessing my tracking is right out. I did try and set the new tie rods to the same place as the old ones but it all moved around when I bolted it up and the old stuff is long gone now.

Does anyone have a method by eye of setting the tracking so I can get the car to the garage safely for professional setting and MOT? Like wheel bolt upright or tilted in top to bottom 5mm or whatever?

Perhaps I can check the amount of tilt on another car with a plumb line? Or I suppose just the distance between the ball joint centres on another car?

I did my Jeep Cherokee with a steel tape measure quite satisfactorily. You do need a clear line between front and back of inside wheel rims for this though. If you can do that, it would be good enough to get to the garage.

Thank you. I'm about to pick up a laser line. And toe the front of the wheels out 1/16" each side. Seems to be a good get you going concensus view from round the internet albeit not Z3s.
