Stroke Awareness

Thanks for sharing Gary and good luck to your sister on her recovery.

My grandad suffered a few strokes and actually had one round my house on easter one year, terrifying event but the knowing the symptoms helped.

glad to hear this was caught my dad had 2 strokes sis found him in his chair he made a full recovery
& never had another

How's your sister @GazHyde :p
Getting better I hope ;)

Sis is doing OK, luckily she wasn't as badly affected as could have been the case. Just got to get started on the recovery process....

That's very good to hear mate.

Tony.

Great info Gaz wishing your sister a speedy recovery, thinking of you and your family in these tough times.

Hope your sister recovers soon Gaz, pat on the back for your mum and dad. Hope I could recognise the symptoms in the same circumstances, you must be so proud of them.

Roy.

Hope your sister is doing well and on the road to recovery.

The symptoms are easily spotted so keep a close eye on those around you! Glad your sister got help right away. An old friend had a stroke on New Year Day this year while home alone and has survived but has a long road to recovery. Your sister's should be much shorter which is a good thing!! JIM

Speedy recovery to your sister @GazHyde !
She was lucky, thanks to your parents.
At 80, my father had a sever stroke , but I took him to the hospital in a hurry and in 2 weeks he recovered totally and even drove the car for many years after.
Time is everything + good doctors.

Glad they could spot it in time.
I wish I had seen this before my dad got one: now that I read it I can recognize all the signs, back then he kept saying he was fine and we were confused on what to do (also a wrong diagnosis done by some butcher at the ER that should have been called out to say the least)

Luckily I was not convinced enough and called 112 again, this time requesting that they bring him to another hospital, he was promptly carried in code red and thanks God there is no consequences to that event.

They should push for more awareness about this, it doesn't only happen to old folks but to anyone, smoking increases your chances exponentially.

Giving this a bump for continued awareness... been at the Royal Berks since 7 this morning with another member of my family who had a mild stroke (luckily). Only symptom this time was not able to move their left arm which initially confused us.

But as ever if in doubt.... and they were in an ambulance within 20 minutes of ringing NHS direct.

As an update to the original post, sister doing well 2 years on!

Good news on your Sister Gaz. Hope your mum makes a full recovery.

My 92 yr old dad had a stroke in May this year. He had had a procedure in hospital the day before and we popped round to see him. We were chatting away and I thought his face looked funny and then he spoke a lot of gobbledygook. He lives about 20 miles from the hospital in a small village. We had 5 paramedics with us in his kitchen. He was blue lighted to hospital and his treatment was brilliant. This happened on a Thursday and he was home on the sunday. He only lost his speech for one day and nothing else was damaged. Scary thing was that we were going to go home just before it happened, dread to think of the outcome if we had have left. On the Wednesday after his stroke, we went to see him and he had been cutting his hedge. Bless him. Pleased that your sister is doing well Gary.

That's good news Mary.

Reading this it makes me think as to why the Welsh Government consider Strokes to be a minor matter.
Quote from a BBC article "Strokes are included in the amber category, with no time target."

Good to hear your sister is doing fine Gaz, hope the other member of your family comes through it too.
Just read your post again to remind myself of the classic symptoms, thanks for reminding us again.

Roy.
