Stormy weather....

Years ago in the summer time over here, it came out of nowhere, an almighty bang, I through myself to the floor in the kitchen and registered a flash, thought a bomb had gone off...!!
Turned out next door had got hit, quite a lot of damage...they think it was ball lightening.
Pretty rare phenomena that. My dad always said leave the door open to let any ball lightening out. Not sure how that works.
A few years ago I was working at home in what was the office upstairs and lightening struck next door. Massive flash, virtually no bang - just the hiss and crackle of the air ionising. No damage except it started their alarm which they couldn't switch off.
A neighbour was working as a paramedic and had to attend a guy struck by lightening - he was very lucky. Burnt his feet and blasted holes in his shoes.

Didn't pass glasgow airport certainly no planes about when passed Prestwick airport

Its not the best place to be in a thunderstorm - Supposed to be safe enough but I think I'd rather not be in a plane about to land when lightening strikes.

In 85 Joan and I were in Bavaria when a lightning storm hit. Sheet lightning, balls and flashes everywhere in the sky outlining the Alps! Pulled over and watched it for an hour and a half! Most spectacular storm I've ever seen and I just love lightning storms. Had a dandy last night here but nowhere near what Winnipeg and SW Manitoba got with winds and several tornadoes touching down!! We lucked out again as most of it went south of us.. JIM

I bet that was interesting going past the air port. I presume planes weren't trying to land in that.

We were due to land at Miami a few years ago as we were heading down to the Keys, but a mega storm was going on over Miami so we were diverted back out over the ocean 3 times and the last time we had to go north and land in Orlando to re-fuel before taking off and heading back down to Miami.
When we landed (finally) the immigration hall was packed, so after what seemed like hours we set off for Isla Morada all the while watch thing the lightening storm still going over the ocean all the way down US 1.

Tony.

I took my mate on cheapie last minute holiday to Marmaris after he just been dumped literally after they bought a house which she tried to sting him on. It was the last two weeks of the season in October weather was great but witness some amazing thunder flash rain storms literally lasting 10 minutes making the roads like rivers but promptly disappearing as soon as the sun came out but each night were treated to some great lightening shows on the hill sides at night. Great holiday that for sad reasons but helped gee my mate up.

I bet that was reassuring. Land in a storm or run out of fuel. Our storms are Tame by comparison. Shows you how insignificant we are compared to the power of nature though.

Impressive in those mountains I bet.
We flew over a thunderstorm in the Alps - like flash, flash flash of cameras going off in fog all around you. It stretched right across into the distance. I suspect they fly around storms nowadays if they can as lightening can go up as well as down.
