Got home after doing a hair raising drive to Blackpool at 5.30 this morning, to find some of the render on the wall around the garden had lifted and fell on to the pavement. Lots of standing water and Aquaplaning going up and coming back down
I did a 40 mil,e round trip ealier and was glad to get home in one peice, fallen trees and debris all over the road, had to stop twice to clear a path
Definitely a good day to stay indoors, if possible. Might even forego the Mandarin tonight ................

not been a particularly good day here either.
Got up this morning and the gates had been blown open past the mag-lock and strained them:
Anyway, managed to get them back, adjust them all again and re-teach the settings,
So decided to leave them fully open instead.
Then this afternoon:
Blown up off the top hinge and then fell backwards twisting the bottom hinge right around...
Big hammer and start again!
Found out today, that last night, but not storm related, my youngest son Ben had this happen:
Coming around a roundabout to meet a Clio coming the wrong way, driven by a Romanian.
He had entered the country yesterday, bought the Clio, and was racing some other Romanians in a Passat.
Wrong side of road, around the roundabout the wrong direction, with no insurance.
Police called, questioned him, took all his details, but he is probably already back in Romania by now..
My gates are just an irritant in comparison

I've see three cars with their tops down today

On the storm front, I was called out on a job, two minutes from home, level crossing barriers down for five minutes, then they lifted and I went round the corner and there was a tree across the road. Had to turn round and wait as the next train passed, so 15 minutes and about 400 yards covered .
Good news is that I'd negotiated £30 to do the job, and I was back in the house in just over an hour.

No, windows mate. The bathroom one is new but the guy that fitted it pulled two bricks out when removing the old one and never came back to finish it, the bedroom one hasn't been replaced yet and really needs sorting.Oh no! What can that be, Roof? I've just seen a chunk of pointing on the drive about 2 ft. from Shirl's car. Something else to do.

Really sorry to hear about Ben's car Pete, as you day the idiot responsible will likey get away scot free.

its not so much getting the car fixed its all the s*** that comes behind the scenes, months and months of hassle
Ben is on about getting the car repaired himself as he is already 2 years into a no-fault claim that's still not been sorted, and is paying the increased insurance premium whilst that is on the go. He doesn't need more aggro.
Gates are all sorted now, just needed big enough hammers.

Its on days like this I have even more admiration for the Lifeboat crews ---- I saw Moelfre and Llandudno out this morning.
Landed at Gatwick at 5:00am this morning after an overnight transatlantic flight. Then a three hour drive north.
Don’t think many flights came in after we landed. The drive was getting increasingly hairy at what was 4am to us. Within an hour of getting home trees were down just a mile away.
Think we did rather well considering. Only the last 15 minutes were of any concern, the last three were, well, very interesting. The pilot fought to get the aircraft down in the dark. Only once did I think we were in for a go around. A flight shortly afterwards had four attempts.
The roads and motorways had increasing amounts of branches and rubbish flying around.

Drove up to Sheffield yesterday with our eldest son to watch the boxing at Sheffield Arena and it was just another drive out. Left Sheffield this morning and drove 330 miles home in the storm. We got home ok but saw a few accidents on the way, all of them on the opposite carriageway to us.
Fingers crossed but so far so good on the outskirts of Whitehaven. Been windy and rainy but nothing like other folk are getting. Rain and wind forecast for the next 15 days though

Indeed, people may think you are mad Steve for showing such brave foolishness in the face of the forces of nature. Those of us that know you do not have any cause to worry. We know it to be true.Ha I laugh in the face of storm Ciara.
Up north doing a recce for the Scottish run so out all day yesterday and today in the zed roof down at appropriate moments people must have thought we were mad

Roof was up all day today rain then showers too frequent and squally but down yesterday till rain came in about 3pm
