I've ordered some E46 front brake mounts to replace my existing ones, to install 300mm discs....

My problem is the callipers, is there a way to upgrade the calipers to cure the (seemingly common) problem of them sticking? My car currently have that on occasions, and I actually would love to fix that for good. My front calipers actually looks pretty recent, as they still have silver brake paint on and look good. However they DO stick.

So yes I know I could replace the pistons etc, but that seems to cure it for a time only. I'd love to find a way to make sure it just doesn't happen...

Regular maintenance is about all you can do. Refurb them, and then check them regularly and should have less problems in the long run...
Also use it more if you can. Are you sure it 's the pistons sticking and not the pads sticking on the discs, or even not the rear brakes ?

Tony.

Making a caliper look good is a 10 min job with a pot of paint, just because it is painted does not mean it is mechanically sound, refurb your calipers and either use your zed regularly or maintain them frequently and you will not get this issue again.

Make sure you use red rubber grease when rebuilding the sliders not copper grease

What do you mean by 'maintain' them ?

Use the car regularly, and after you wash it take it for a short drive, using the brakes often to dry the discs, pads and calipers. I do this and have never had sticking brakes! (Kiss of death!)!

It maybe worth doing a proper rebuild of the callipers new pistons ect, I did see a video recently of someone refurbing their callipers and using a honing tool to clean up the bore..... I didn't even think about using one of them :)

What I've decided to do is to get a different set of brakes; the 300mm from a 325i -- and refurb /these/ completely. That way when I get these installed I'll have brand new calipers, discs, pads, hoses etc.
