I don't have a garage but have a slightly larger than average carport.

I built it for our caravan but as we no longer own it Reggie gets the slot, I filled the sides in with shiplap as I'm not allowed to brick it due to its size, keeps the weather of him pretty well tho.

I put the gates up as one of our dogs has a habit of jumping up on bonnets!

What a cracking place to "play" in Nick. Enjoy rebuilding your car mate.:)

Tony.
I did the taking apart Tony, the spraying and rebuild will be left to those that are more capable than me.

This is what it looked like when I bought it......

So you're an Arab Sheik then ?
Sadly not Jack, but I do spend more time in my garage than in my house... or seem to have done for the last few months.

I know I'm very lucky to have them, but the "luck" came with a lot of hard graft. The garages were all virtually derelict when I bought the place many years ago. Doors hanging off and front wall falling down. Very neglected. There was a Victorian greenhouse next to them which had a sycamore tree with an 18" diameter trunk growing out of the top. Sadly that was way past saving, but I've done all the work to restore and make the garages good myself. The floors were mud, old copper brick boiler in the corner.I laid the concrete floors, sorted the roof, painted and sanded the walls, painted the floors and did the wiring. I even made the pit useable. Lets just say I have an affinity with them. They are "My" space. I know every crack and blemish in them.

:)

A lot of satisfaction in all that hard work Nick, I dug the pit in my garage by hand, albeit about 30 years ago, I probably wouldn't want to repeat the feat nowadays to be honest.;)

We aren't allowed pits by law except in some specialized businesses. Had a neighbour caught under a vehicle and fire that almost died in his pit thus the lift going in my shop! JIM

Shirl's dad had a garage just round the corner from us Jim, he had a beautiful Rover V8 Coupe which was to be used as the wedding car but the sills were a bit tatty and with Reg being a perfectionist he couldn't just paint them for the wedding. No, he set to welding new sills (rocker panels? to you) on 3 days before the wedding!!. Upshot was he burnt the garage down and the point of this tale is, the local fire fighters went charging into the garage with an open pit and one of them fell in. Luckily he wasn't injured and got out OK.

Glad no one was hurt @t-tony, did he get the car out of the garage? My friend nearly died from infections to his burns and endured years of surgery for skin grafts and is still very disfigured but alive. They figure if his wife hadn't pushed the burning truck back allowing him to escape he'd have died. I was in hospital for rehab after knee surgery when he came in the shop and I didn't recognize him until I heard his voice asking how I was! Horrible things those gas fires and pits. JIM

One of the jobs I had to do on the Porsche was cut out the old fuel line crimps. The only way I could get at them was from the pit with a dremell. I clamped off all the fuel lines and was incredibly careful, but boy I was very nervous. Pits are a death trap in the case of a fuel fire.

Alls well that ends well, but a lift is a much safer option. The trouble is you then have to work around them for the 99.9% of the rest of the time that they're not in use.

Fortunetly, my building is large enough that there's not going to be a problem with the lift. I plan on putting ing a full size with a portable 1/2 lift for working on brakes wheels and body work. They're pretty reasonably priced here for either two or four post.
Glad you didn't have any problems with the fuel lines. I can't think of a more painful injury than major burns. JIM

I wasn't allowed to build my garage the needed height for a lift. Gutted about that. Have been looking at alternatives in semi lift...even some I could take with me to the track.
