Earlier I had a go at trying to help the spring back of the driver side safety belt on my car. It's been (very) sluggish. Turns out you can see the belt roll if you remove the clip-on plate on the inside of the roll hoops.

With a can of WD40 with the long plastic tube insert, I manage to JUST about reach on the two side of the 'roll' and spray some lubricant there, and 'exercised' the spring for a little while, and wow, it helped a lot! I was worried I would have to take down the whole roll hoops to access it (and I probably should, to clean it properly) but here I had an instant fix to a rather annoying problem

WD40 FTW!

What I do first when vehicles fail the test for belt no recoiling, is, pull the webbing out and wash with hot soapy water, thoroughly dry it and then spray liberally with silicon spray.

Tony.

Actually @t-tony my WD40 only partially fixed the 'slugish' belts, so I ended up taking hot water with dish cleaner, and generously clean both belts -- and lo'and'belold, it's all nice again. There was a bit of stiffness in some part of the belt, the washing cleaned that up (the water was particularly disgusting afterward ;-))

Thanks for the tip! With both part of the job done, it's as smooth as it'll ever be!
