Watching this thread with interest, right pita having snapped/shared bolts. Had a days’ worth of it last weekend.

I've been tempted to buy one but I've never had an instance where a few cycles of cherry red and rapid cooling hasn’t worked yet. Also I have Gaz, you should see him with a club hammer!
I will finish this off at some point and I'll update on how I get on, but I've got 3 days of 12 hour shifts and then I'm off to Scotland for a week so I'm not sure when I'll get to look at it now. :(

I'd love to try one of those induction heaters, they look so handy for the one time that you need it! (Or in my case 4 times!)

Only £50 a bolt for a cheap inductor if you look at it that way!

Smoke machine is easy to make and you can source most of the parts you need from ebay. I made mine from an empty 5 ltr paint can, some resistance wire and odd lengths of wiring I had. Used airline fittings for the air inlet and smoke outlet mounted in the lid. Much the same as thuis youtube video

I didn't use a pressure regulator, instead of using my compressor I just use a 12v air tyre pump or a cycle pump to push the smoke out, it works ok with either. Just need to drill some holes in the can and use rubber grommets to mount the 12v terminals that feed the resistance wire thats wound around the cotton wick. I use Johnsons Baby oil in mine and that produces white smoke ok. Well worth the effort of making one it could save you hours when looking for air leaks.

Finally managed to get it sorted. o_O

Tried applying heat to the stubs, got em glowing, but still didn't budge. :(

In the end I cut the stubs off and then drilled the old bolts out. Sounds easy, but you have to be careful! A pilot drill broke off in one of the bolts leaving me with a bit of a headache. :banghead:
I ended up using diamond tipped 6mm hole saws to cut around the threads. They don't last long, and I used 30 of them to get the bolt out.
Because I had to drill the threads out, I've had to install some helicoils to get the threads back to the 6mm standard.
Everything is now back together, but the engine temp is running a bit hot and the heater is cold. Tomorrow I'll try raising the front and bleeding the system a bit more.
Amazingly, once it was all back together, it started first time! It was September when it was stated last! :)

Thanks to everyone who helped out with their wise words and experience, pictures of manuals and particularly @Brian4 for coming round and helping me get it all to bits!
