Wow @FRANKIE that was a seriously long post! Very interesting information though. I hope you can meet up with @t-tony and Shirl. Wouldn't that show what a fantastic forum this is!
Americaland is bloody huge! I live almost bang central in the uk and travel all over our little island with work. I Do one of our bigger runs on a Wednesday at work and go right down to the south coast and then work across it. I can do that and get half way back up in a 15 hour shift. Doesn't look very impressive when your on about doing a 24 hour drive to nip and see Tony lol!!

Very interesting post @FRANKIE! Wonderful stats about the relative sizes of States.
Wyoming must be empty - the size of the U.K. with a population of less than 600,000. Almost the same as the little county we live in.
Hope you get to drive down and see @t-tony even if you have to drive as less than 100.

I grew up with a guy in Philly that moved to Wyoming. He lived in Newcastle. He worked for the oil company Arco (Atlantic Richfield Co.). He worked at their Thunder Basin Coal mine, which is surface coal. I thought I would try working out there and went out to see him. On his day off, he let me use his pick up truck to go out to the mine and put in an application. He told me to drive to the end of town and make the last left. Drive on that road until it comes to a "T" and make a right. Look for the silos and after you pass them, you'll come to the mine. Sounded easy. He had slightly more that half a tank of gas. I told him I'd fill it up when I got back. He said I'd have to fill it before I left town so I did. I drove for almost 2 hours after I made that left out of town. I never saw another building, house or any other structure until I saw the grain silos then the mine. No one passed me in either direction. Gas station????? Forget it!!!!!!!! He told me that in the winter, if you pull over to the side of the road, the first car that comes along stops to see if you're ok. If they don't and you're car isn't working, if it snows, you could die. They'll find you in the spring. To say it's wide open country might be an understatement. Frankie
