Rust behind glove box

I picked up a gorgeous 99' 2.8 and have found some of the usual water/leak issues. Pads under carpet are pretty soaked and there was about a 1/4" of water in the battery well. I'm getting ready to take out the carpet and clean the foam underside.

I was also working on the glove box sag repair (courtesy of Never Done) and found this rust back there. I'm pretty new to car maintenance and not sure if I can afford to leave this rust of not. Thanks for the input!

That is just a bit of surface rust on untreated steel. Have seen it on a "dry as a bone" Z3 in the same areas. Nothing to worry about.

If your OCD will not leave it alone, you'll have to remove the dash to get to the complete rail.

Not sure how long my OCD will hold out but at least for a little while! More pressing things to take care of. Appreciate the response!

Spray the rusty area with WD40 and forget about it. You can see that type of corrosion under the dash of most old cars.

Tony.
