Interesting the different opinions on drive vs part ferry.
Have done different road trips for last 3 years and loved them , but all have involved return leg on Autoroute du Soleil (SoF to Reims) which have been a bit of drag and put a dampener (literally) on holiday as it has started raining from Lyon so top back up.
Looking at doing Biarrtiz/ San Sebastian this June but can't make mind up whether to do one way by ferry.

Me and mozza might (probably will) be changing our plans (again) This time going to Epinal, Grand Ballon, Mullhouse, Sustenpasse, Grimselpasse, Oberwald,bessans, Briancon, Chichillian and then Andorra and the route in reverse along the Pyrenees to Candanchu before driving down to the villa in Javea.

I find that some parts of the trip "are to be endured" however much you like driving,just an idea to cut down on those bits

Would any experienced European Z travellers be willing to share their do's and don't's in preparation for travelling through Europe - France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain etc. including the driving legalities UK drivers have to adapt to - daytime / nightime driving, registration plate regulations etc?
