Rear storage bin - Help

[Nifty Fifty]

I'm attempting to replace the small rear storage bin, can anyone advise how this comes out??
The new one has arrived complete with a pin to go through the hinges but I cannot for the love of money find an easy way of getting it out.

As ever nothing is easy on these things.

I've checked both a Chilton's manual and the Bentley manual for interiors and neither of them show anything. Whenever I'm stumped about something, I go the the dealership and try to find a mechanic walking around on a lunch break or something and ask him. More often that not, they'll offer advise and ofter tell you shortcuts you wouldn't think of that save tons of work. Frankie
PS Also, they have books and computer programs that give detailed pictures of things we just don't see in our manuals. Frankie

4 screws at the top and 2 towards the bottom to remove I think. May be difficult without removing the rear console from the car first

The only way to remove it is to remove the entire center storage box.....There is no other way unfortunately.

Thanks for the response, I thought as much. I've tried to remove the main centre storage box but that also seems a tough job as the roll hoops / trims seem to be in the way. Do the roll hoops have to be removed??

Roll hoops, both seat belt turret trims, and center box need to come out. Bit of a mission, but at least you get a chance to give the interior a good cleaning... BTW...you will find it heaps easier to work in the area with at least one seat removed...Just make sure you disconnect the battery before you disconnect any seat power connections...and don't re-connect it until the seat is first connected.

Thanks for the update, I already have the main centre console out as I'm working on another issue. The seats were planned to come out for the next project anyway so I will remove the rear console out then. I have purchased a new small bin so this job has to be done.

I would disconcert the battery, re check all the wiring connections to both seats and then reconnect the battery. If the lights stays on you will probably have to get the fault code(s) cleared by plugging in to a code reader Frankie.

I have done that too...only two days ago I popped into a local BMW specialist who hooked up his re-setting tool, plugged it into the large round multi-pin plug in te engine bay, and 30 seconds later I drove away...sorted...cost me £12.
So, it does require a special tool / electronics..which can read fault codes and re-set them.

Frankie, have a look on eBay for a B800 airbag reset tool. They are pretty cheap in the UK now, so hopefully the same your side of the pond.

Gaz, I just looked up the Airbag re set tool and I see it comes with an adaptor lead to connect the OBD connector to the 20 pin under bonnet port. If I use this lead to connect to my Autec fault code reader to the 20 pin, will I be able to access more information from the system than just by plugging into the OBD under the dash? The airbag tool + lead is only £15.99 so could be very useful.

I'm not sure if it will allow you to pick up more, but some earlier cars either don't have the under steering column port, or don't allow all functions. Can't remember which is which though!
