Rear half shaft seized...any advice?

Well done. Your approach sounds text book. Although you've discovered along the way you need to press the bearing in the right place at the right time.

The splines into the hub are glued with permanent loctite in the factory. So it's not unusual that heat (proper heat from a torch) is required to get them moving. So you've either been fortunate or it's possible it's been off before.
