Not sure what our rights are regarding who we choose to get repairs done.
You can demand where you want it repairing, AVOID the accident centres at all cost, we have seen some dreadful work from them as they are generally on peace work and paid per car, lets say for instance that they get 16 hours to fit your back panel, if they complete it in 9 hours they still get paid for 16 hours
Sorry to be reading all this Ian, but happy to hear that you and Gail are both all right. One hell of a mess to sort through no fault of your own though.

Not sure about all the BMW deaerships but ours has thier own bodyshop
I don’t know what the car is worth but insurance companies will write off for convenience these days if it suits them. Eg salvage worth is taken into account.
I spend quite a lot of time looking at salvage auctions and it makes the mind boggle what gets written off.
I can well imagine £3-£4k for repairs as Sean says and maybe then some. For sure that would finish off most Z3s but I know jack about Z4s.
I’m not suggesting it will be written off. But it can come as a very rude shock unless you have an inkling it could happen.

We both had half a second or so before the impact so we knew it was going to happen - no idea how big it was going to be.
The car is worth about £12k. Hopefully worth repairing. It’s a bit unethical writing off a car because they can profit from it. Better not happen...

BMW give a lifetime guarantee whereas the insurers is often only 5 years. Lifetime = while you own the car only.
I think you stand a good chance of being okay if the car is worth that much.
Yes, I find loss adjusting to be unethical. And downright shameful when it comes to older cars. A Cat N (old Cat D) Z3 can usually be put back on the road for peanuts. But it will be forever worth only 60% of pre accident value when repaired. Small repairable bend in bonnet, bust headlamp and front bumper will write most Z3s off. But £500 would put that sort of damage straight. Instead that Z3 would be priced up with brand new BMW parts at a total of £3k plus and written off.
Glad you guys didn't get hurt. Hopefully the car can get back to new.

I'm with Axa through Swinton and they wanted me to take mine to Alton cars at Mansfield which are the shambles that painted Reggie. I said no and it wasn't a problem, they just asked me where I would like it to go from a list they had and we agreed on one and they did a great job. More than happy with it.

Main thing is you are OK. It's damn right annoying and an inconvenience being hit but that can be fixed.

Sorry to read this but as said previously Ian, the main thing is you and Gail are ok. Shaken obviously but not injured. The Zed will be fixed. As my old Dad used to say 'Money will fix most things'
Been looking at options. While they put pressure on you to use their nominated repairers, you can insist on using whoever you wish. The insurers often guarantee work for up to 5 years. However, BMW guarantee their work for as long as you own the car.
If you choose your own they often remove the option of a hire car. That’s not a problem for us.
I know someone who used to own a body shop (until some scrote burned it down taking 27 customers cars and her own SL with it). She will likely know who is the best indie in the area.

As far as the car is concerned, we were able to drive away afterwards. Having written 3 cars off in accidents caused by others that’s a blessing.
