Rear ended today :-(

Not good reading this. Had my first Z3 written off through no fault of my own. I hope you can get it all sorted and life continues a pace.

The BMW dealers round here use a body shop which also does merc and Audi. But not VW. They all use the same place. I think it’s owned by one big company that runs the dealerships.
 
What horrible way to end a weekend away but pleased that it’s something that did not involve injuries to your selfs. I hope you can get it back on the road again without any dramas.
 
I can only echo what others are saying about the insurer's preferred repairers. Don't, just don't even think about it.

I used an extremely well regarded independent body shop in Swindon and they looked after every step of the process directly with the insurers. They were very anti being railroaded by the insurers towards their preferred repairers and were very clear they could not only do the repair but submit the estimate directly, agree the repair and negotiate any additional work found during repair. And they were as good as their word. Superb repair, totally hands-off for me and they got a new front wing due to finding a small crease after dismantling. I'm pretty certain a preferred repairer would have just straightened that.

She pulled her phone from her bag which was in the boot. Just momentary in-attention when attention is needed most. We’ve all been there and learned the hard way too.
 
Insurance have agreed for it to go to a BMW dealer bodyshop - no need to discuss or argue. Just waiting to arrange for it to go in.

This car is with eSure. Can’t fault them so far, but, the other car is too and it’s 100% liability on her part. Only one company involved.
Car just dropped off to let the dealer sort it with the insurance. Hopefully pick it up in a week to 10 days.
The fact we don’t need to wait for a hire or courtesy car helps.

Thanks mate. Mine were great to be fair, car was in the workshop of my choice within 3 days and back 3 after that. They never asked me for a penny either as it was a non fault claim.

I'm now fearing that Gail's cherished registration (Her mum and dads name!) may be at risk if it's written off.

Should we put it on reservation now before they have chance to write it off?
This could turn a minor inconvenience into a disaster.

Find an independent body shop of your choice if they start to um and ar
 
Current approved repair is £7,700 I’ve just been told. Current estimated costs are just shy of that. If it goes North we’ve got a problem.
I was bang on at the original approved spend of £5k. That was increased to £6.2k and now £7.7k.
Considering we haven’t used a courtesy car, I would have thought we’d be owed more leeway tbh. Being down a car is becoming tedious and has robbed Gail of her car in this wonderful weather.
 
Can't see how the car being written of can jeopardise the cherished number though Ian? It doesn't "belong" to the car after all.

If it is written off with the DVLA with that number on it, the number goes is what I understand.
 
I would doubt that. The DVSA will have on record the number that car was used with at new and that you transferred the cherished one to it I would accept losing it after you paid them to transfer it.

I've heard of owners losing their plates in this circumstance. That's why I'm concerned. If it were to happen Gail would be devastated.
