Look forward to seeing more pictures. I'm interested to know more about the ASC/DSC setup this is something that's been giving me a headache with my track time.

With those extra's your zed will be in a different league.
ASC / DSC will not be active. ABS only... but currently I am with the basic 3way ABS (only 1 line to the rear) and it is helping me, but .. it is slow and dumb.

I am hoping for better and faster ABS when I add the 4th line and modern ABS module... and IF I can get one M3CSL module - it has the "track mode" settings on the ABS and is better working .. so IF I am able to get one of those - I will change only the electric module and nothing else to be touched.
( a lot of info can be found here : https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2304811-MK60-ABS-Standalone-info )

I am really hoping the car to be VERY fast next year .. but I will have a long winter with all these plans :D

This is the issue I'm having. I need to either upgrade what I have or remove the DSC altogether but somehow still be compliant with UK laws.

Just in case it helps - I believe some of the newer Z3s have the later MK60 module, there are two versions of that Mk60 depending on which year of facelift - even though it's on both Mk60 one has the reservoir closer to the DSC module while the older model it's on the other side of the engine bay.

See this

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/...action-control-system/dsc-mk60/supply/XPon62h

Not going to be the as good as the CSL/standalone options but maybe something that helps with people using older systems. and might be cheaper/easier to make this work for the Z3.

МК60 are installed after 2003 .. and this does not include Z3s... Maybe they have some previous MK.. modules and this could be very easy for upgrade, as the pipes and some wires are already in place.

But anyway, MK60 is not hard to install. Just on older Zs - you have to run second pipe to the back wheels.

In my case, the engine is out and it is pretty easy.

I am working on the car ... and will post few updates soon. Just I have to finish some custom parts :D

Update,

Ok - there seems to be several variants of MK60 ...

The one that includes DSCIII was fitted on earlier e46s and Z3s...

There is a label DSCIII on the ABS module itself and as far as I know - this variant works with one additional DSC pump between the master cylinder and the ABS module.

After 2003, the MK60 states only DSC (mine here):

IMG_2079.jpg

And it does not require additional DSC pump. This was the variant used in M3s and CSLs

The modules ending in 813, 817 and 818 are from M3s/CSLs.

Mine is from 330Clubsport. - 811

Unfortunately I have not started the car yet, but I will fully confirm when ready what is the result :)

Cheers !

I reckon there might be two versions of this in the z3 too, mine is an earlier 3.0 and it's got the separate pre charge pump, one of my work colleagues has another 3.0 very late production and with no pre charge pump and components on the opposite side of the engine bay compared to mine.

Hello @TheStorm . Lots of interesting mods on the z. Particularly interested in the fitment of the style 66 wheels. I am assuming the the fitment is dialled in using the front camber plates on the coilover setup? How much camber is needed to get the fronts to tuck underneath the arch? Considering these as a viable upgrade for a staggered 17 setup. Isn't much oem 9j fitment available in 17s. Hope to see lots more of your car in the future.

Hi,

Actually when I drove the Style 66s - there was no essential mod on the suspension - only lowering springs. Surprisingly the Style 66s just bolted on the Z and they fitted perfect.
After that when I lowered the car drastically I had to use very narrow tyres, to strech them so they be low also, but when you go that for - this is on personal configuration. I used 205 or 215 on 40/45 and finally 50s on the back, so I can make it a bit more drivable daily.

Last fall I have the Style66s to a friend with Z4 and they fit quite good there also. 245 40 17s :

Thanks for getting back to me @TheStorm. Really interesting results on the style 66s with fixed damping and springs. It's the setup I will be running again, albeit with some new springs.

I much prefer 17s on the z3 having tried both 18s on my 30mm lowered z3 2.8 pfl. I have 8j et30 225/45 on the front and it rubbed the outer fender plastics till they split. Another 10mm is going to reach out to the metal. I don't think I'll be as lucky with the fitment. Running stretch isn't quite my cup of tea but I think aside from front camber plates this could be doable.

Set up I would like to run is 8j 225 45 with 9j 255 40. So far style 32s offer this setup with near perfect fit, but not much else.

225/45 is actually standard size of Z3 tyres so it should be fine. Also - style 32s should have similar ET with the Style 66s so the fitment should be quite similar.

About the car ...

I am waiting for my custom engine brackets to be ready, so I can put the engine in the car and after that to star working on my gear lever and the prop shaft ... and everything else around the engine.

I have some hopes that I will be rolling for the next event, which will be on 14-15 March .. but .. we will see.

Meanwhile I have I think almost all the parts for the car, like the 630cc injectors and the Audi RS4 MAF. ITS HUGE!

And the car starts looking almost ready ...

The style 32 im thinking for the front is an e90 era 8j et34. Almost perfect fitment. 14mm further in than both 5 series style 66 and 32.

@TheStorm I have seen a few porsche maf mods but keen to see your results. There's a progress thread section on our page. Good way to create a little journal and I would certainly like to keep up with your progress.

Hi Guys,

sorry for not posting updates ... but actually I got a lot now done ...

So - the car is now running!

Let me explain what I completed in the last months:

1. Engine -

I converted it to MS43, with manifold and throttle from M54b30.
Used 630cc injectors from Porsche, and Audi RS4 MAF
330 WHP and 440 WNM on 0.5 bar pressure. Mapped with the MS43

The car is a bit laggy, but I have to test it on the track first to take further actions. But for the cheapest manifold and turbo .. the result is great. I will upgrade to ball bearing turbo at later stage ... and the spool will be a bit earlier

20200416_135853.jpg 20200416_142903.jpg

The exhaust is 76mm .. with single rear muffler from M135i / M235i ... and actually I am quite happy. It sounds and looks great.

92438113_650553482180630_5420988381049913344_n.jpg

2. Brakes

Fully working ABS MK60 from E46 330i
Front brakes from E46 330i
Rear brakes from E39 with Ferodo DS2500

3. Bodywork.

the actual body is not changed, but the big thing here is that I have successfully moved the engine 7cm back. And I only had to hammer a bit the metal that is covering the wipers... The head cover was hitting there.
I have measured it currently, with the stock seats and it is about 1180kg ... with the light seats it will be less ... so I am quite happy with the weight also.

4. Suspension - I will NOT install the subaru coilovers.. it will be so much of a trouble.. and I sold them.
I have bought a set for Z4 .. it should be here next week .. and I will install it.

5. Future - I am waiting a pair of E46M3 front arms, so I can install the E46M3 knuckes so I can install the E46M3 front brakes.

This will give me a bit more width on the front .. and a bit better brakes.

I am just wondering if I should buy DS2500 or DS3000 pads...

I will post a bit more pictures when I find my old phone ... and download them :D

Cheers!

Hi Guys (and girls),

I havent posted for a while now... sorry. Crazy year :)

BUT the car is running GREAT and I am SO happy with it. In 2020 I basically took part in the two championships here in Bulgaria - the BMW Cup, and Dracon Speed Cup.
In BMW Cup I was first in all three events in my class (which was the most crowded) and in Dracon Speed Cup I won 3 out of 4 events, and one second place. I havent imagined this car to be so fast!
I will just say that the car is 0.1 sec faster than BMW M2 Competition on Nitron coils, and about a second and a half faster than M4.
In one event I lended the car to one friend (veery crazy driver :) ), he put full slicks on it, and raced in the top class. The times were similar to BMW F80 M3(with mods) on full slick and E46 M3 with a LOT of modifications. You can see them here

Another shot from the track:
119174814_1791546907680438_8705392222781421967_o.jpg

After the updates from last spring... I added only ... a bit more boost :D :D :D

So .. after adding some boost controller, I drove the car at 0.8 bar of boost (its about 11.6 psi) the whole year. This means several hundred of kilometers, almost all of them on the track. No issues with the engine!
Here is the graph at this boost:
20200715_231751.jpg

Now ... the future ... what comes next?

20201229_172721.jpg

I think you got the idea...

Basically - full racecar mode. I have now stripped the interior, and will soon send the car for fiberglass hardtop, doors and trunk, and after that for full rollcage.

For now I will not touch the engine, brakes or suspension ... just because... money :(

with some tricks here and there I hope I can be under 1100 kgs WITH the rollcage. Just to mention that all Zs have wiring for all the extras... this means 13+ KGs or wires.... MAD ... I have tried to cut here and there ....

and car still starts, runs, and battery is charging as you can see from the dash :D
