#ZedShed Project - Vixxen (track car)

There's no nuts and bolts .... these boys have industrial velco
That’s for beginners (I know I used to hold my number plate on like that.... actually I think the rear plate may still be velcro...).

I gave the shed team a lesson in the use of quality cable ties and insulation tape (none of that cheap nasty poundshop stuff). They have the most lovely cable tie tightening/clipping machine too. Absolute delight to use.... (I’ll be getting for Xmas in fact)
Seems to be paying off, they hitting F1 pit stop speeds now :racecar:

One whistle, or two?;)=)) I bet you could go in the shed and get the tools you need for that job with hardly thinking about it Lee?

Tony.

The biggest difference making it a fast strip down is have a 3 piece exhaust system. It un bolts in minutes! No messing around.

Probably does now it's been off. Not so easy getting the original bolts off where it joins the manifold! They are a bi*** to remove.

This is no normal 3.0 lump ;)

Thicker HG and ARP bolts she's ready for a turbo anything up to 600bhp in fact :D
Wow now what a surprise :whistle:Love it

Thought it was time for another update: In-between the wife bringing a new family member into the house we still managed to get some garage time. When I drove to Beulieu I had the M54 3.0 engine fitted but was running the 2.8 manifold/injectors and ECU, it ran ok but had some funny fuelling issues as expected.

In between times we've now fitted the M54 3.0 manifold with injectors, we also have to changed the engine loom back to the M54 loom from the M52 Loom, this was mainly for the throttle body setup and a few sensors that differ. Another task was changing the pedal over to fly by wire from a throttle cable 'gutted really as I’m a fan of the cable more'

Out with the old manifold:

Comparing the 2.8/3.0 manifolds (biggest differences being the larger TB and Disa, also the holes are slightly slarger)

Removed the engine loom: (all plug and play)

The main difference being the throttle body connection:

Connecting everything up to the ECU: (Every connection is a shape and size so its very hard to get them wrong)

What i also didnt realise was how much bigger the MAF sensor is on the 3.0 compared to the 2.8:

I struggled to find the OEM air box that fits the 3.0 setup so for now I have a huge Ramair filter kindly suggested by Tony. Another problem I came across while playing on the ring was downforce, when I was up round 120/130 the nose began to lift coming over some of the brows I've now gone on a quest to get some areo I can bolt on and bolt off between track days.

Last few jobs to do are heli coil two rocker cover bolts as some yeti pulled the threads out, I've also got to send the ECU back for a remap again because the chap thought he would put a pop & bang map on for me so it dumps fuel into the exhaust. Then modify the engine brace to fit round the custom manifolds, large hammer job.

I also managed to pick this wing up very cheap but its more a showie wing than functional. I've begun stripping the frame down and re painting it. I've also got to fill the wing with some expanding foam to stiffen it up. Then the fun begins setting it up without a wind tunnel 'ball of string and lots of tape' :D

Of course you have to test fit it, just need to make a front splitter now to keep the nose down.
