I have found someone to make a simple tool that will bolt to the three M8 holes on the M44 pulley and will hold it so the nut can be undone
I am getting a price for a 1 off, 5 off and 10 off, Sorry dont know prices as yet.( probably next week)

If anyone is interested in having one let me know and I will buy enough to cover demand.

(I have looked and cant find any specifically for the M44 other than in the US at 209dollars plus shipping plus import tax)
.

I have been under the car for three hours cleaning everything trying to confirm where the leak was coming from.

After running the car up to temp 3 times and checking everything, it turns out not to be the crankshaft seal, but the long sump nut weeping.

The one under the big round plug.

I can only assume that the gasket not quite sealing, but as this is internal not worth removing the sump to change the gasket. Instead I undid and removed the bolt, had some oil come out but not too much, cleaned everything and put it back with sealer on the washer and seating face. Hopefully that will stop the leak.

So now have to put it all back together and clean the inevitable fault codes and see how it goes.

I will still pursue the crankshaft tool though as undoubtedly will need one at sometime.

Usually a pulley will slide off easily mate, but just to prove me wrong sometimes you have to use a persuader. Be careful to watch for the key which locks the pulley to the crank. They can fall out of place on some engines.

Tony.
A Persuader? Sounds like a 70s Bond-style movie! :)

Well, a very interesting post...if only I could understand half of it. I need more ZedShed days, me thinks.

Hi Geoff, yes seems to be ok and the sealant worked. Warmed it up yesterday to normal temp and could not see any sign of oil on the underside of the sump
