I bought my z3 in February 2015 off eBay very cheap £(1350) as the owner had lost the mot certificate and the car had been sitting around for nearly a year but then found I had been very lucky and had actually bought a real low mileage rust free gem with a full bmw history (expect for the mots) and when I checked the mot history online it passed with flying colours and still had 8 months on it and had only done 70 miles since the last one.

I replaced the hood this year as the rear screen had seen better days (£320) and bought a new exhaust back box and have given her a full service and changed the diff and gearbox oil since owning her and had a bit of paintwork done on the corner of the front bumper and took out the lovely kenwood mask stereo and fitted a nice blaupunkt iPod unit which doesn't look out of place plus I've replaced a drivers mirror and repainted the mirror bases so the car now looks brand new again..
On driving her home I found I had a swimming pool in the boot but after draining the water out I was lucky and found the boot floor was totally rust free and a new brake light seal fixed the problem so now it's water tight again.

I don't use her much as a daily driver as I've an equally as nice BMW e36 compact for that but this winter I will get her out the garage as I want to change the seat base rubbers as there's some play in them and next summer I will be using the Zed as a daily car if I'm not to scared to put a scratch on it.

I've tried all the competition before buying the Z3 as I had a smart roadster (badly screwed together and made of tic tac boxes and my ex had a newish MX5 late mk 2.5 which I couldn't fault to be honest but wouldn't buy one due to rust issues and it just doesn't look as good as a Z3 but when I was looking at the Z3 years ago nice low mileage examples were way out of my budget but I've finally got my dream car.

Welcome on the forum from met too @Vince.
I used to like the Smart Roadster and used to rent one at the airport for a laugh when I came home from working abroad and also when I was on holiday, drove around Jersey with one.
£1350? That's a steal, I got more than that for my total'd M44..!!!

By the way, @Aceman on here makes and sells the seat bushes.

I already have a set of rubbers for the seat which I bought back in February off eBay Germany when I got the car but I've been too lazy to fit them as of yet but will get them done before the car comes out of hibernation next March.

I even fitted a new garage roof this year as I wanted to make sure the car stayed nice and dry but I hope it doesn't get to be a garage queen and not used lol

I've got to admit I loved driving my smart roadster and can honestly say mine was trouble free but it was very well looked after example and the only time it was allowed near water was when it got a wash and polish I think half the problems with the cars was the main Mercedes dealers didn't want touch them really but the build quality just felt second rate compared to a Z3.

I think if the smart had been fitted with a proper gearbox and a decent little N/A engine the car would of been fantastic and it had some lovely design features.

Here's my old one, I do like a black roadster.

I do wish I had known about ace mans seat bushes before I went out and bought mine as his look far better quality and harder wearing than the ones I have but I bought mine the following day after buying the car so I didn't really look about and that buy it now button is so tempting on eBay lol

Welcome. That's a cheap car good find even with the roof and bits and pieces you have done looks circa less than 2 k
I had the boot puddle also but the 3rd brake light gasket did the job.
Only problem being the brake light bulb holders are rusted hence no brake light they are proving to be a real pain to buy. I did ask Soapers but 7 holders were £71.00 somehow I don't think so at that price.
I think mine was garaged before I owned it but now it lives outside and used in all weathers.
Enjoy.
