New Z3 owner. Recently bought a W reg 2.0I roadster.Love the car ..Is it normal to hear a whistling sound as you accelerate through the gears?

I recently bought a W reg Z3 roadster 2000I. All is well with the car but is it normal to hear a whistling sound as you accelerate through the gears?

Hi Ken? Welcome from me too near Lincoln and no it’s not normal to hear a whistling noise unless you have a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold system somewhere. These are very common on the Z3 range. Usually it is one of the intake boots but not always. Where are you located please?, there may be a member local who could help you.

It its pretty loud then maybe the previous owner fitted one of those stupid turbo-waste-gate sound-efffect things.

If its a background fairly quiet thing then maybe a split air pipe or seal somewhere around the air intake
