Hello all. I have been a "car guy" since the late 70s and have owned a lot of neat cars over the years. I just sold my most recent project car (1965 Ford Mustang) and went shopping this weekend for a new summer "play car". We found and purchased a jet black 1997 Z3 (1.9) with 66K miles on it in great shape. The only immediate fixes I need to accomplish are fixing a broken fog light and the odometer dash light is out. I have already ordered the light bulbs for the dash and two fog lights to make sure they match. The other thing I would like to do soon is replace the foggy rear plastic window. I am still researching how that is accomplished, but I have found a couple of things mentioning a zipper. I have not picked the car up yet, but I did not notice the zipper, so I am assuming it is somewhat hidden inside the car. I did notice some white stitching on the outside of the window, so I was assuming it had to be sewn in. This will be my 3rd roadster (had a 2003 Corvette and a 1927 Ford that was a bit of a chore to drive). Looking forward to learning from this site and gathering whatever knowledge you folks are willing to pass on. I live up near Seattle, so the sunny days will be here soon! Thanks, Glenn

:welcome:..Love the Beige interior, ( but then I am biased ) Looks like it's the extended leather option too.

Not sure what the extended leather option is, but it sounds good! It does seem to have all of the options inside with heated seats and such and has a multi player CD changer in the trunk. I am still learning what all of the stuff on the car is and don't know much about that the options are and what is standard. First BMW provides for a steep learning curve.

Hi Glenn, welcome from me near Lincoln, UK. Sounds like you found a nice car. One thing I might suggest before heading down the new rear window route would be to purchase some Greygate Plastic Polish and see if it will restore. My Z3 rear window wasn't great when I first bought it but with several applications of this stuff it came back to nearly perfect. It's available on eBay.Com and isn't very expensive, well worth a try.

You're very welcome Glenn. That's what we're all about. One thing I do like about my Z4, it has a glass rear window with demister.

Tony.

Thanks Mike, some great articles in there and I am confident I will use some of them. I wish there was one in there for replacing the light bulbs in the dash for the odometer, but I did find another article using Google for that task.
Try this YouTube clip, may help.
