Sills away for painting.... Expected back late next week.

Managed to get the underside undersealed today and put the jack point pads back on.

Ordered some 355 estoril paint from BMW so that I can get wheel arches tidied up before liners go back in.

So I reckon within the next two weeks we might have a functioning car, that I can take for a run!

Craig.

Welcome from Stirling.

I will not be able to assist in anyway as you are doing more to yours than I could ever hope to do to mine myself :).

Got the new sills and the repainted panels back from painter today and I'm well chuffed with the results.... Albeit they are new sills so they should look great!

Rust prevention measures have been taken so that hopefully rust never returns by means of fully undersealing sills and then seam sealing the edges, thereafter painted in estoril blue metallic 335/5 and then clear coated....

Underside has been done also so at the weekend the sills etc can all go back together and we might just have a full car again....

Local dent removal company coming out tomorrow to finally remove the numerous car park dings from doors too!

Bought the airbag reset tool as my airbag light was lit due to seats and steering wheel being taken off to be cleaned up etc. and it worked a treat!

Also treated myself to front upper and rear lower and upper strut braces from bertini so I am part way through installing them too....

Next is tracking, alignment and MOT and thereafter get the car out for a couple of runs and enjoy it before taking it off the road and full repaint and roof replacement!

Sills, side panels and new underside vent trims including jacking points refitted yesterday.... Used new fixings throughout as wasn't into faffing about with rusty old self tapping 8mm fixings!

Next the dreaded plastic wheel arch reinstall...... :(

Not a bad colour match I think.... Little bit of panel alignment required but nothing major.

Spent the kids inheritance also yesterday having dents removed.... Didn't realise how expensive dent removal was these days!

And here's one of the car back on its wheels (wife's Mini Countryman winter wheels, as I don't want to scuff up my refurb'd style 0078 BBS wheels).....

I've been onto the supplier, apparently they 'lost' my order for your blue wrap, and they don't feel that's a good enough excuse to give me it for free either. So it's still on its way...

So a bit of update.......

Nothing much done other than buying a few bits recently. Car has been tucked up in the garage for the winter however keen to get it now back on the road and out.

Have decided the car isn't sitting low enough for my liking on the H & R springs / bilsteins so considering swapping out H & R's for Apex -35mm's. anyone have them fitted / be able to give me some feedback?

Also any recommendations for a decent stainless exhaust system for 2.2?

Thanks,
Craig

I am just about to get a stainless back box custom made by stainless creations in Falkirk for my z4. I have used them before and can highly recommend them. Cost will be approx £250, you can pick the tail pipe type and size you want as well as how loud/quiet you want it to be.

They do full custom systems too.

After a few months of doing nothing and the car sitting in the garage (partly because I was sick looking at it after an incident with an axle stand and a freshly painted sill), I was off today preparing for my sons kart racing at weekend, managed to get ready quicker than I expected so I had a couple of hours free to work on the Z...

So today I got the bumpers off and stripped in preparation for a visit to the body shop, started to strip off trim on the offside sill to have it repaired / repainted and I also managed to fit the wheel spacer kit I'd bought too.....

Looking forward to getting the bumpers and sill back from painter in a week or so and then it's time for check over, MOT then a run out with Barry Robertson @barryrobertson in his black 2.2.

Couple of images showing today's progress.

Oh and I've bought apex springs as I want it lower to the ground.

SK02 FLY got some new boots (again) earlier this afternoon.

Looks awesome and I'm delighted with how the AC's look fitted.. so this weekends job is to swap out springs for apex -35mm's and complete headlight de clouding.

Then it's onto refitting body panels and bumpers when they return from painters next week...

Loving the wheels, once you've had a drive in the wet with those skinny rears you may never want to back to wider rears, fun fun fun!
