I've been looking for this car for a couple of years now, the perfect spec for me, 3.0, Dakar Yellow etc etc.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-BMW...806796?hash=item3b199d418c:g:kyQAAOSwYFtbgnYt

But I have just checked the MOT history, and its reads as if it has lived in the sea! I can imagine what the underside looks like, let alone the blisters on top. Says its had a lot of work, and some of the advisories have disappeared, but I know how things can be bodged as well as properly repaired!

I want that car so badly, but fear it would just be a money pit!

What do you think?

Could be worth a look but it looks as though it has lived by the sea so it depends what it is like underneath.

It hasn't been loved has it? I suppose it depends how much you have to pay for it. Just had a look at the MOT history and although there are a lot of advisories over the years there aren't any that would cause too much concern. The corrosion on the body panels could be an indication of what might lie underneath, but we rarely if ever, have the opportunity to remove body panels when viewing a car.

I get the feeling that it will be as bad as can be underneath and will more then likely need some welding in the near future

I notice in 2015 it says
  • Underside of vehicle has been undersealed
For the rest of is life it should say
  • Underside of vehicle has been undersea ...... well the car is from Ocean BMW!

There are a lot of things in there that a coat of underseal may have hidden, but haven't fixed,

The word 'coroded' appears too many times.
Now, thats ok for brakes and suspension components that may want changing anyway, however when it comes to structural parts that means £££££'s..... subframe mounts, jacking points etc etc,

Even changing things like brakes and suspension can become a nightmare when every bolt is rusted in.
Unless you get this for the right price, get a donor car body, a cutter, and are good at welding, I would carry on looking.

Blisters on the paint is all corrosion from underneath, so replacement panels are required, and also another indication of where else the car is going to be rusty underneath once uncovered. so by the times the panels have been replaced you may as well have bought a silver one and painted it Dakar instead.

It Is Being Sold As It Is & How It Has Come In.

U Will Be Required To Sign A Company Invoice Stating My Terms Before The Vehicle Leaves Me

Alarm bells ringing in my ears...
Traders like this make my pee boil

"U will be required to sign a company invoice stating my terms before the vehicle leaves me"????

This does not over ride a persons statutory rights, or the sales of goods act.

Or simply the fact a trader shouldn't be selling anything unchecked/possibly unroadworthy to the public and allowing them to drive away in it.

OP I'd imagine that car's reached the end of it's life without some serious work that only someone like SeanD would be able to undertake economically.

Edit..

Seen that they're saying it'll have a new Mot before the sale ends.

Then why terms??????

I've just re read the traders description.

They state they'll put 12 months MOT on it.

But selling as an auction trade style basis.

Why if it's got a new MOT on it?

My alarm bells would be ringing so loud the neighbours would be calling the Police to complain about the noise.

At least they've not hidden the number plate though so one can see all the Mot history.

That has to be the worst Mot history I've ever seen on a Z3.

Interestingly, I read in The Telegraph once that unless you are registered as a Motor Trader, then a Motor Trader is unable to sell a vehicle as a trade sale. Your rights as a public buyer are maintained by law, regardless of anything that the Motor Trader wishes you to sign. So selling with a new mot etc as he boasts, infers a normal sale from the beginning.

So I'm thinking, if this car has turned up, then there must be others, same spec etc!

The search goes on!

And another thing..I see that in 2014 the tank straps were advised as corroded, then in 2015, no advisory, BUT then undersealed!

Think I can guess whats under that underseal!

Paul I know you have been looking for a 3.0 Dakar since joining but looking at the mot history don't think this is the clean original car that you are looking for.
At the end of the day a good condition zed would not need to be undersealed both my 97 and 99 zed still have green and yellow undersides with little to no corrosion so unless you can get it dirt cheap and be prepared to spend on it to bring up to the standard you want then it's a no from me.

But then also might be worth going to see if not too far just so you have the piece of mind that it wasn't the right zed for you.
Stephen.

I just went on eBay looked at the pictures but that only backed what I just said corrosion on many places my Dakar has none. Especially the top of the door and engine bay .

Correct.

A trade sale only applies if they sell to another trader.

Engine bay is a mess, and I think the engine bay say a lot about the car.

Correct.
You cannot sign away your statutory rights (the Consumer Rights Act applies). If you were a trader and it was a business to business deal then another story.

Rust in the unseen areas is probably the only thing that can kill these cars so unless it’s a breaker not worth it.

Shame as it looks a nice car (apart from the awful custard that someone spilt on it :) )
