I took my nearside front wing off today and it had a small area of perforation which I was going to weld up, I gave Europarts a ring and a new one is only £29.90 + Vat, it will be with me tomorrow.

Rear bumper removal today -
Unfortunately the rear bumper plastic cover has a large gouge out of it and many of the little holes the plastic rivets go into are also broken. This I believe will take an a lot of work, time and probably money to repair to get it looking only semi decent - Fortunately I have spoken to Andy ( spurs fan in a coupe) who has one in my color which I hope to go and look at this weekend.
As for removal, unfortunately I was unable to take many photos as I was taking it off on my own, the drivers side was hanging down lose where the previous owner had started to take it off. Again research on here at the Wiki pages and the web I was able to find several ways of taking it off. Again this was a quite straight forward job, but i think fitting a new bumper on will be a two person job.
I am going to enclose a link to another site I found which has lots of information on it about working on the Z3 which I have found very useful in gaining some well needed knowledge. If I have broken any rules about posting other forum links then could the Admin team please remove the link. I did not see anything in the rule about not posting links but its been a long day.
Thank you.

A question that I hope someone can answer, where is the best place to get the little plastic rivets 16 off I think, and also the 4 larger rivets that locate the plastic bumper to the wings,
Any links or part numbers would be great.

That's a very good price.
I saw an OEM one for 50quid last year on eBay and grabbed it thinking its a bargain!
Didn't expect it to come down in price.
Now if only they did the side sills at similar prices..

Hi @DirtyDog This page might help in identifying the parts.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=CN52-EUR-06-2000-Z3-BMW-Z3_30i&diagId=51_2330

realoem is the parts catalogue for BMWs just type last 7 digits of VIN number into serial number on first page and you will get the parts for your car.

'bmw expanding rivets' into ebay brings a whole list of various types or main dealers -- Sopers usually very good.

edit -- are these the ones?

Good to see you today, hope you made it back to work in time!
Over the weekend I managed to meet up with Andy, to be honest I was expecting an old bloke (I'm 44 ) with a flat cap to great me at the door:D, so i was pleasantly surprised when Andy opened the door ;).
A big thank you for sorting me out with the rear bumper and inner wing, both are in great condition, a little touch up paint work required on the bumper which Andy pointed out but its far better than the one I already had on the car even if it didn't have the tear in it from the accident..
Really helpful guy who I will be dealing with again hopefully in the near future

The bumper came off easily doing it on my own, putting it back on unaided is a little harder.
I tried but i just couldnt manage to line everything up, I read on here that taking the rear light clusterrs out made it a lot easier to fit.
Again another straightforward job, 3 nuts and a plug per side. 5 minutes to remove each side max

Wow how much easier that made it, the bumper fitted on first time. I really do think its worth taking the lights out first if anyone else replaces their bumper.

The bumper lines up quite well, the gaps are pretty even, but I will be spending some more time later trying to get them spot on.
Unfortunately ran stopped play today so I wont be able to carry on with anything else now for a few days.

Quick update on progress.

I have managed to temporarily repair my of O/S headlight, a bit of fine mesh and plastic welding will hopefully hold together to get me through the Mot and last till I can get some angel eyes later in the year.
Changed oil, filters ect at the weekend.
Got a coolant leak which I'm hoping is just the expansion tank, but its hard to see untill I pull it all out, £13 new so one on order.

Fun bit today- two new tyres needed due to cracks where the car stood for 5 years.
Could I find the locking wheel nut, had it 4 weeks ago, used it and thought i had put it back in the holder. Checked along the road and drive Spent 3 hrs looking for it in house and garage nowhere :banghead::banghead::banghead:
Spoke to local bmw specialist and he said I would have to try to get a replacement from bmw somehow.but they could only do if I took the car to them.
So how to remove without a key - Good old Youtube, 23mm bi hexagonal socket whacked on and off they came luckily, only for my mum to walk 25meters down the road to find the blasted wheel key in the gutter:whistle::facepalm:

So , the cars now up on axle stands with the wheels off ready for new rubber to be fitted.
Next will be draining the old fuel out and replacing the fuel filter.tomorrow.
i hope to strip and clean the break calipers as well whilst the wheels are off.

lets hope I dont misplace anything else....

Looking good DD, from you pictures I can see the chassis is in good condition. The panels that attach to that can be replaced any time, by the looks of it a good paint shop would be able to sort the damaged panels quite cheaply.

@DirtyDog if you haven't already done it, write the number stamped on the backside of one of the wheel locks and keep it safe. That way when you lose your key you just order the correct number key from BMW! HTH JIM
Thx for the advice Jim.
To be honest I hate locking wheel nuts and will be replacing them with standard ones asap.
I think the days of cars being stolen for just the wheels like in the 80/90s are long gone I hope.

On a side note are the standard bolts easy to get?
