My Hood ...don't move

HI back again , for another question ......
my hood don't work . it has been like this all summer if I was to be honest , but you know what is is like live with it .... for Sooo long !!
symptom are push button makes a clicking noise in the boot , but no movement .
where is the best place to start .
I have taken a cursory look , the tank seems to be low of ATF but there is not sign of oil anywhere .
Tried to unscrew the tank under the motor it didn't like it wanted to move, so I wasn't going to force anything and bugger it up ...

Do you have the tank pictured in this article? The level can look low, and you need to use the circle on the side to work out if it's lost any. The level will be lower when the roof is up, as it's filled the hydraulics - https://zroadster.org/articles/bmw-z3-electric-hood-emergency-release-key.23/

Either up or down, the level should be in the circle (if that makes sense)
